I think Montreal will have its hands full just trying to get a wild card spot, it will be a real dog fight with Toronto and Ottawa. If they do get past that, then its probably Detroit and sayonara.

If we stay healthy, should be a mid-pack type of team...around 5-6th...if we get hurt by injuries, we struggle to make it the 8th and final spot....

I think the Sens and Leafs re-gress because of expectations...

Pit-NYI-Mtl-Ott-Wsh-NYR-Bos-Tor we are in PO last season.
Add Det and Clb to that list. Clb had same results as NYI and they were playing in the West.
We can not discount Phi.

So that's 11 contenders for 9 spots.
Pit and Bos seems favorites for the division.

Besides that, you can throw the dice.
Clb seems to be on the rise with Horton and Murray coming in.
Streit left NYI for Phi.

It will depend on injuries.

NJD went to the cup and the following year did not make it the PO and finished 7 points out.

Even Wsh, NYR and Det could be out.

Do you guys feel like the Wings might struggle in the East? I have a feeling they will struggle this upcoming season...?

I'm really not in love with their defense, I think it's actually pretty weak and I'm not sold on Howard even though he has been great.

Combine the defense they have with how the East operates and they're going to find themselves having to go from puck possession to grinding out wins defensively. I think they'll miss for the first time in 22 years.

Think it's gonna be a huge battle from the Rangers down to the leafs. Many teams in there with the ability to step up and surprise. Think the Canes and Jackets might even work their way into that group. Should make for some great hockey.

It's a bit of a transition year for us. I think we'll just make the playoffs and then likely be one and done. It's next year when things get interesting. Going into 2014-2015 we could have a fantastic young team.

IMO Detroit will have a great, great season. They are used to having success against teams much better than Florida, Tampa and Toronto.

I usually aim the hardcore fan that places us first, and when I don't feel it, I place us like 5th.

But this year doesn't feel good at all.

1- Boston
2- Pittsburgh
3- Detroit
4- Columbus
5- Ottawa
6- Toronto
7- NYI
8- Carolina
9- NYR
10- Washington
11- Philadelphia
12- Montreal
13- TB
14- New Jersey
15- Florida
16- Buffalo

Our defense is piss poor. We do have a good offensive, puck possession team. But we've shown the league that our defense sucks. We still haven't addressed our size issues. Our wingers aren't great (Bourque was good last season, and Gallagher is still improving, Pacioretty is our only good LW). And nobody give me that crap about Briere playing the wing, he doesn't play good on the wing like he does in the center. I just don't see this hapening unless Bergevin manages to make some trades.

Bold prediction: Boston either misses, or barely gets into the playoffs.

They gave their goalie a massive raise and 8 year contract.

Biggest problem with Bruins is they're still $2 million over the salary cap even after removing Savard on the IR, and that's with only 21 players on the roster. Someone else has to go.

I don't know why we always have to praise the Bruins, they're not a cut above anyone, especially not the Penguins, regardless of what happened in the playoffs. Everyone is reading way too much into the size they allegedly have (2 guys are big, the rest are cheap turds like Marchand).

I see them right in the mix with Montreal, Toronto, Ottawa, Capitals and Rangers - hard to say any of those teams is clearly better than the others.
Seem to recall similar comments about the B's last year... We all know how that story ended.

I hate the bruins with a passion, and would to see them implode. Reality is that their group, of which the leadership is largely intact & still very effective, is that they have a cup & runner-up finish in their past 3-years on the resume.

If anything, habs fans generally underrate them vs overrate them.

Very solid goalie
Top-6 defense deeper than most in the league
Great mix is scoring, toughness, role-players up front
Coach/system that fits their roster & has locker room support
Solid & surprisingly deep group of NHL prospects knocking at the door

Bruins simply have fewer holes/question marks than any team in the East.

That's what I wanted to show.

The poster said Markov is gonna have trouble with an 82 games schedule.

He played 74 games last year so....

1- Pittsburgh - They somehow get it together again, goalies have a good year

2 - Detroit - They have one of their lastest great seasons

3 - Ottawa - The surprise of the year

4 - Boston - Not as dominant as the previous years, but still a strong contender

5 - NYI - Another surprise and keeps getting better and better throughout the year

6 - NYR - Improvement from last year but Lundqvist doesn't have his best year of his career (which means still being great)

7 - Montreal - We don't suck as much as everybody think we will, but we still need our rookies to replace our kitten players in order to go up in the rankings.

8 - New Jersey

9 - Washington

10 - Toronto - They're back to toronto-ness

11 - Carolina

12 - Columbus

12 - Philadelphia (tie)

14 - Buffalo

15 - TB

16 - Florida

Of course those might not be the most logical predictions ever, but what's the fun in making 100% rational predictions?

I won't do my East ranking prediction right now but I wouldn't be surprise if we miss the playoffs.
Strongest division, a lot of good teams, a questionable D... it will be hard. No way we finish 2nd or higher once again.
