Rimer trying to get noticed tonight

@JoshRimerHockey
Speaking of the Avalanche was also told that if the Avs didn't draft MacKinnon they were going to take Barkov who went to the Panthers at #2

My oilers communist lineup:

Jones/Gagner/Yakupov
Joenssu/RNH/Eberle
Hall/Lander/Omark
Perron/Gordon/Hemsky

Now I know these lines would never happen but it would be cool to see them faceoff in training camp. They seem pretty equal in terms of skill

I think a lot of scouts were worried about Seth Jones' hockey sense. Probably worried that he was going to end up like Ed Jovanovski.

Not sure why Drouin wouldn't have been ahead of Barkov for Colorado. I suppose if both Stastny and O'Reilly weren't in the Avs long-term plans..

A 17 year, top pairing, NHL veteran defenseman with 500 career points? That's a bad thing?

For someone going #1 overall potentially, it might have been seen as a bit underwhelming. Especially if scouts saw MacKinnon as someone with franchise C potential and Barkov/Drouin as better options.

Jones going first overall is more like Chris Phillips going first overall, not Jovocop.

Enroth should probably be starting regardless of whether or not Miller moves before the year.

How is prospal still unsigned. He would be a good 3rd liner and could fill in up the lineup as required.

There's still quite a few decent UFA players still unsigned... now essentially casualties of the CBA and the (temporarily) lowered salary cap environment.

I remember reading Prospal wanted to go back to CBJ, but they had Cap issues. Never thought I'd say that about CBJ. Anyway like next said CBA as a whole has changed the dynamics of teams going into the off-season. A lot of teams now give shots to their prospects. Another issue is what we saw here with Fistric, seemed like there was a time we were open to bringing him back but he priced himself out of the market and we went another route.

Every year this happens and honestly if you are in your 30's and not signed by July 5th you better just take the best offer out there because waiting any longer is going to lead to you wondering why on August 30th you don't know what you are going to do with yourself.

Morrow, Cleary, Boyes, Wellwood, Hejduk and a few others should all be seriously looking at firing their agents. Unless of course the agents told them to take a deal and they refused to sign.

My current "All UFA" team:

Connolly, Tim C
Wellwood, Kyle C
Lombardi, Matthew C
Malhotra, Manny C (If he's recovered enough from his injuries)

Latendresse, Guillaume L
Prospal, Vinny L
Cleary, Danny L
Morrow, Brenden L
Raymond, Mason L
Sullivan, Steve L

Boyes, Brad R
Mueller, Peter R
Hejduk, Milan R
Kobasew, Chuck R

Huskins, Kent D
Redden, Wade D
White, Ian D
Lydman, Toni D
Aucoin, Adrian D
Hamrlik, Roman D
Gilbert, Tom D

Thomas, Tim G (If he's recovered enough from his craziness)
Bryzgalov, Ilya G

Certainly some oldies in there and some players who have lost a step or three (and some with a variety of "issues")... but also a lot of players that would be still useful bottom pairing dmen and decent bottom 6 forwards on many teams. At the very worst a lot of these players would be solid #7 dmen and #13 forwards.

Obviously though there are only so many jobs to go around and only so much cap space per team so quite a few players who are still NHL level talents are likely going to have to look elsewhere for jobs.

Damien Brunner is probably the best RW available, and Lydman retired.

Ya I know. Most people point him out... I'm not convinced of his 2-way game. He's a liability defensively which is why I don't have him on the list... but sure that's one more name to add to the pile of UFA's that are still available.

One more from your list not available. Lombardi signed in the Swiss League.

Jovonovski spent far less of his career as a quality top pairing guy than he gets credit for. He was great for a young player in Florida but nothing all that special, was average to really good in Vancouver, considered a defensive liability in Phoenix and really only had one good year there offensively considering his defensive issues, and in Florida he's been poor. Jovonovski is a bust who had terrific skills and could never seem to put them together with consistency.

Now Roman Hamrlik there's an underrated 1st overall, much better player than Jovonovski. In fact i'd take Phillips over him too, while we're on the topics of 1st overall defensemen from the 90's. Berard is a write off with the eye thing.

Yep... honestly I had Whitney as part of that team... but thought everyone would think I'm nuts after his performance with the Oilers last season.

So what the hell... Poti out and Whitney in... one slightly younger washed up ex-Oiler replaces an older washed up ex-Oiler.

Certainly no lack of the "grizzled vet" factor on that team either.

Since Lombardi is gone to the Swiss league... I'll replace him with Jeff Halpern. Can't have enough "experience".

So new lineup:

Connolly, Tim C
Wellwood, Kyle C
Malhotra, Manny C
Halpern, Jeff C

Latendresse, Guillaume L
Prospal, Vinny L
Cleary, Danny L
Morrow, Brenden L
Raymond, Mason L
Sullivan, Steve L

Boyes, Brad R
Mueller, Peter R
Hejduk, Milan R
Kobasew, Chuck R

Huskins, Kent D
Redden, Wade D
White, Ian D
Aucoin, Adrian D
Hamrlik, Roman D
Gilbert, Tom D
Whitney, Ryan D

Thomas, Tim G
Bryzgalov, Ilya G

Parade... plan... now.

On another topic... who the hell is the backup goalie in Nashville this season? Is Rinne going to start all 82 games?

Capgeek just has Rinne pencilled in and no backup at this stage.

Answering my own Q... looks like many think it will be Carter Hutton as the back up with a few saying it may be Magnus Hellberg... I guess it comes down to who shows the best at camp although with a name like Magnus Hellberg... I'd say he already deserves a spot.
