I've been hearing Hellberg, but would be worth checking the Preds board to figure out

Since Lombardi is gone to the Swiss league... I'll replace him with Jeff Halpern. Can't have enough "experience".

So new lineup:

Connolly, Tim C
Wellwood, Kyle C
Malhotra, Manny C
Halpern, Jeff C

Latendresse, Guillaume L
Prospal, Vinny L
Cleary, Danny L
Morrow, Brenden L
Raymond, Mason L
Sullivan, Steve L

Boyes, Brad R
Mueller, Peter R
Hejduk, Milan R
Kobasew, Chuck R

Huskins, Kent D
Redden, Wade D
White, Ian D
Aucoin, Adrian D
Hamrlik, Roman D
Gilbert, Tom D
Whitney, Ryan D

Thomas, Tim G
Bryzgalov, Ilya G

Parade... plan... now.
With NHL expansion coming soon it looks like they might be able to actually fill rosters with some decent players.

I just see more crappier players making the NHL. The Stortini and chorney's of the world will make a comeback.

I can understand the views from both sides.

I think another 23 jobs (probably 46 as they would expand with 2 teams most likely) would dilute the talent pool slightly but I also think some of those spots would be filled with players from Europe that are NHL quality.

Maybe there's not a lot of obvious top pairing and top forward line NHL calibre talent in Europe... but there are a lot of 2nd and 3rd liners over there and some decent 2nd pairing dmen as well.

I don't think the talent level on a league wide level would significantly decline with another 2 NHL teams.

Why is that a bad thing?

For a team like us that has so much skill that can onyl be good to have a higher separation of Talent.

If every team has to shave off their fourth linme and art of their third line we literally lose nothing and the quality of all our opponents lowers.

Makes for more grabbing, trapping and slowing the game down.

Well really when you think about it... 2 new teams would be 46 players... that would basically be the equivalent of 1.5 players removed from each current team so I really don't think the dilution effect would be all that noticeable.

2 new expansion teams would have salary caps of $64 million as well so that's over $120 million to tempt some top players over to the NHL from Europe. Combine that with current UFA players without jobs and I can see talent dilution being less of an issue than many think.

With Boedker still not signed, I'm a little disappointed we didn't go for him instead of Perron

I doubt Phoenix would part with him... they'll hammer out a deal with him before long I would think.

Personally I'd take Perron over Boedker... and it's not that close. I'm actually pretty excited to see how Perron performs in the Oilers top 6. I think he's going to do even better than even some of the more optimistic projections (with the usual proviso that he stays healthy ).

Are you implying you'd rather have Paajarvi and Boedker (assuming Boedker wouldn't have cost Paajarvi + 2nd) as opposed to just Perron, or do you mean you'd rather have Boedker over Perron?

They probably won't move him, but you never know. It's still worth a phone call imo

I'd rather Boedker over Perron. He's big, fast, much more physical, and is going to break out offensively any time now. He also doesn't have a major concussion.

According to hockeydb, Boedker is smaller than Perron. Offensively, Perron's production dwarfs Boedker and both play(ed) on defensive teams. I'd argue, if Boedker breaks out offensively, his production would more or less be what Perron's is now. Injury concern is a factor for Perron.

Paajarvi for Boedker would be one of the biggest lateral moves possible. I take Perron over Boedker easily.

We've seen a lot of dwarfs come and go over the past seven years. In our world 211 pounds is light years beyond 205 pounds. Just so long as you're heavier.

Do you think the Oilers will give out any tryout contracts? Gillies or Halpern perhaps?

The whole point of trading Paajarvi for Perron was trading a guy who maybe doesn't have top-six offense for a guy who does. Boedker doesn't produce at that level.

Paajarvi for Boedker wouldn't have addressed the roster hole.

Nikolai Zherdev terminated contract with Czech #Lev of #KHL at his own request just month after signing and is UFA now

@IgorEronko
Funny that Zherdev says he knows nothing about contract termination and never requested it #Lev #KHL #EnigmaticRussianWinger

I think this is a case of buying low. We could probably get him for a Snicker's bar.
