The Dubynk for Ward nonsense must be straight from NHL 13.

Personally I'd like to see a bottom 6 of

Boyes - Gordon - Jones
Joensuu - Acton - Brown

and then use Hemsky in a package with say Smid to go after a guy like Kronwall. And do whats needed to sweeten the pot with a pick/prospect.

Hall - Gagner - Yakupov
Perron - Nuge - Eberle
Boyes - Gordon - Jones
Joensuu - Acton - Brown
Smyth

Kronwall - Schultz
Ference - Petry
Schultz - Belov
Grebs

Detroit could use a RW, and would create depth having Abdelkader on the 3rd line....

Zetterberg - Datsyuk - Hemsky
Franzen - Weiss - Alfredsson
Nyquist - Helm - Abdelkader
Miller - Eaves - Samuelsson
Andersson

Smid - Ericsson
Quincey - Smith
DeKeyser - Kindl

Plus Hemmer and Smid would be out of our conference.

Just spit balling.

Outside of one of the kids there is no way we get Krownwall. He played 3 more minutes a night then the next closest guy last year and has a pretty small cap hit(for a top pairing d-man) at 4.75mil.

Yeah I figured...just day dreaming. An upgrade on Smid is the point of my post though, using Hemmer as bait. Maybe a guy like Yandle where Phoenix could afford to lose him.

I'm hoping EDM invites some guys to TC though. Carolina, Phoenix, and others are already jumping in on that.
If KHL teams are releasing a Russian NHLer... you know to stay away.

Ya you definitely don't give Prospal more than one year.

I disagree about Raymond. Imo, you bring him in to replace Hemsky going forward. He's good defensively, extremely fast, and can fill in on any line. Sure he's not physical, and he's a total perimeter player, but not everyone has to play gritty. Put him out there with Gordon, and pick up a big winger next year, and we've got a great 3rd line

No kidding.

Carolina looks for a windfall if they let him go.

And regarding salary, the Oilers would be stupid to balk at that deal. Regardless of what he and Devan make now, Dubie's getting paid next year, so Ward's $6M salary doesn't sting so bad then.

Crazy talk.

Looking at his stats previously, he wouldn't be that bad of a pick-up. Worst case scenario is he's a short-term replacement for Magnus. Best case is him repeating 2009-10.

But I wouldn't bank on him "replacing" Hemsky. A healthy Hemsky is almost guaranteed to match Raymond's totals for the aforementioned year.

Ales Hemsky was having meeting with Oil GM Craig MacTavish Tuesday, likely to get lay of land after he wasn't traded this summer

I don't think Ward is as great as he used to be.

If Ward came here I'd expect him to be the Oiler killer he was in '06.

Oilers blog says that RNH bulked up to 180-185 lbs this season, up from 170-175 last year.

Guess we'll find out tomorrow morning:

@dantencer: Craig MacTavish and Ales Hemsky will get the questions over with tomorrow, meeting the media together at 9am.

@NHLbyMatty: MacT and Hemsky in presser Wed morn. Is MacT going to say he's told Hemsky he's working to move him but he has to hold tight?

@Lowetide_: RE: Hemsky. It's either a "Ales and I had a long talk and he's energized" PC or Ales made like Keith Richards and fell out of a tree

offensively, Hemsky is definitely the better player, but Raymond is the better guy to have on a 3rd line imo

Really positive. reminds me of all the reports we got about Hall last year. If Nuge is a bit bigger and his shot is better, watch out.

ugh can't help but feel it must be negative news on the hemsky front. wouldn't it be funny if he surprised everyone and was announced as captain?

@Lowetide_: The worst outcome for the Hemsky PC would be a trade. Brutal outcome.

@Lowetide_: @statsdmg Hemsky can help. If they are going to deal him make it at the deadline when his value is highest. Better yet--sign him!

It's a bit weird to announce a press conference a day before to talk about why you haven't traded Hemsky, haha. although, that would not surprise me at all and MacT will give the whole "Ales is a battler and is 100% committed to playing at his best for the Oilers".

I'm sure it'll be a presser stating the obvious. Hemsky's an Oiler, a consummate professional, and we'll see how the season unfolds from here.

I'd be pretty astounded if it was anything else (IE: trade, sitting at home).

I'm a little worried about the compatibility of Eakins and Hemsky

Hemmer doesn't strike me as a come to camp in the best shape of my life type player
