As far as I've know, we've never heard a thing about him coming to camp out of shape.

This whole bit about his work-ethic being bad is pretty unfair to him. He got killed for years trying to make things happen on a team less talented than him, I don't think it's fair to assume his off ice practices are lacking.

That would be interesting. Maybe he saw what Kovalchuk did and his planning on doing the same.

Ya, Major Curve ball. Hemsky is announced Captain and has signed a retirement contract.

Stranger things have happened.

He's 28 and on a contract year. He's also previously shown in several seasons that he is a game-changer. He was also our best player for half of his career.

Besides some awful injury woes in recent years, what kind of crap have people seen to get this kind of assessment regarding Hemsky?

He'll be fine.

Not that there's a huge difference but Hemsky turned 30 in August.

EDM GM Craig MacTavish/Ales Hemsky meeting with media Wed. No major announcement expected, likely just pre-season "turn the page" session.

BREAKING NEWS! Hemsky signs 10 Year Deal worth 100M to stay with Oilers. NHL let's contract slide since he has no trade value to begin with.

My bet its he wants out of his contract. Hemsky won't want to play on the 3rd line again this year. Isn't there another buyout period coming up here right away?

Well, if he "retires" we can go out and sign Brunner. Done and done. Or, we can use the cap to move an extra D and pick a forward off of waivers.

Having said that, it's likely an announcement of no consequence, which is odd. Why bother having a conference to say you are BFFs again?

Strange days.

I don't see why not.

MacT publicly declared his intention to move Hemsky along. Meeting, coming to an understanding, and clearing the air before training camp removes needless questions during training camp.

That would be my guess if there is another buyout window.

I remember Stauffer hinting at the Oilers possibly using a buyout on Hemsky during the special arbitration buyout window a month ago, but nothing came of it.

I got the transcript of the press conference beforehand:

MacT: I just wanted to make it clear to all of you that Ales coming back is not a failure on our part. We see Ales as someone who will play a vital role on the team this year. We're very, very excited to have him back.

Reporter: But didn't you say that Hemsky needed a change of scenery, that it was best for him and the team if he were playing somewhere else?

MacT: We're always looking to make changes that can help the roster. And if you want to get value, you need to give up value. Certainly Ales is a player a lot of teams were interested in, but at the end of the day we decided that not doing anything was the best move we could make. I've talked to Ales, to make sure he's coming in with the right mindset, and he assured me that he was. He's excited to be back, and we're excited to have him back.

Reporter: Anything to add to that, Ales?

Hemsky (sounding like he just woke up): Yeah, you know, like Mac said, I'm just happy to be back.

The scariest part about this post is how much you nailed MacT's vocal mannerisms.

Hmmm I wonder if he may have a serious health problem or something and maybe needs to set things aside. It would certainly explain the Omark signing.

I'll just assume there is nothing to see here as Bobby Mac said.

Maybe at the end of the presser they can hold hands and sing Kumbaya while waving mini Oiler flags with their free hands?

I'm just hoping for a glimpse of The Rings from Lowe at the press conference to reassure us everything is good within the org.

Just for the record, there is no "buyout window" coming up.

Yeah, don't know where anybody got that idea. It would be stupid to buy him out anyway, he could still be a useful player even if he is an odd fit on the 3rd line and a good fall back plan when not if but WHEN somebody in the top 6 gets injured.

The presser is going to be the usual "everything is good now" and "Ales is glad to still be an Oiler" crap. Pointless drivel to be honest.

leaked 30 mins ago from @treenaoil

MacT: i know it was said that hemmer was to be traded but other circumstances have arisen, i will let Ales talk to them

Hemsky: this is the first season in my entire career that i wont potentially be boat anchored by shawn horcoff. to say i am more than excited about that possibility would be a huge understatement.
