Why would both player and GM attend a press conference announcing a buyout of his contract?

Who knows. But why would they bother to both be there if it isn't significant?

Maybe he'll be the new captain. No one would have seen that coming.

Maybe it's the Oilers making everything easier on everyone. Instead of MacT having a presser and then the media trying to track down Hemmer, it's all setup in one room. That and I believe the rookies are leaving to Penticton today some time so maybe MacT talks about that a bit as well.

So they can both field questions.

These things are not a big deal. They hold these little pressers for any small thing at this time of the year.

If he's ever come to camp at less than 100%, its likely because he was rehabbing an injury in the off season. I don't recall his fitness or work ethic ever being a problem.

I think people are just trying to justify running him out of town. We don't have to resort to making crap up about the guy. He'll get traded this year. I hope we can get some good assets back. And I'll wish him well wherever he ends up.

After the Crawford contract, this looks like a significant steal. It is a good deal for the Hawks.

RNH may have come to camp with an extra 15 or so pounds but he still looks like a 12 year old boy physically. I don't think he'll ever be anything but a twig

I don't think RNH could ever bulk up to the point that HFOil would approve of. His stature and body type isn't the type that could bulk up to 200+ lbs and keep the same level of quickness.

He will be a slightly taller Datsyuk type build, and he does just fine.

He's not even a player that uses size as a part of his game so who cares about his weight. Sure he tosses the odd hit but that speaks to him using his smarts and timing to catch players at effective moments.

I'm of the opinion he'd be a worse player at 200lbs than 180lbs.

He really is a unique player when it all comes down to it.

Mac T sure was the mother hen during the interview. Hola Hemmy looked like a scared rabbit thrown to the slaughter. Soon as Nuge comes back Ales is going to be in no mans land on the 3rd line. Better pick up the manual on how to play D this season and minutes chopped.

Interesting Garon going to LA on PTO as they are having contract problems with 23 year old Martin Jones who has been great for them in Manchester.

Sounds like Jones is close to making that next step to NHL backup pretty soon. Could be a future target.

What is wrong with some of you people. Hemsky was about the only thing that kept this team exciting to watch for years. All he has done wrong is get injured going to the tough areas. It's not like he has been a useless perimeter player who didn't give a damn. Give the guy some ****ing respect, he beat his body up for years with a piece of **** team and always stuck around. For those who don't think that he has any value are kidding yourselves.
