Next Islander number retired?

Curious about everyone's thoughts on who's number will be the next one retired?

#16 should be the next one retired for Lafontaine.

They can do a 2 for one night and bring in Lafontaine and Palffy, two of my favorite Islanders. I'm joking really, Lafontaine deserves it more. He's maybe my 4th favorite Islander ever behind Potvin, Gillies and Bossy.

Unfortunately, they have written him out of their history for now which is a disservice to us fans. I hope they put their personal battles behind them. IMHO, 16 is the only number that should be retired at this point. Turgeon/Ziggy and others just weren't here long enough. Would love to see Tonelli in the hall of fame.. I hope they fix whatever the issue is with LaFontaine, but if not the next retired number will be 91 (and no not butchie).

Yeah, I could see Tonelli's name retired, but not for a little bit longer. I think the Team is gonna wait till they are strong contenders for the cup. That way they use it to enhance their PR.

Other than that..Staff?

Being an oldster and remembering how integral Goring was to the dynasty, I wanted #91 retired before Tavares even came to the Island. Now that that's not going to happen, I want to at least see Goring in the Isles HOF. I don't believe he's there and that's wrong to me.

I thought I heard that Tonelli was holding out for a number retirement and didn't want to be just Isles HOF. That could be a bs rumor.

Other than the two of them, no more retirements until we win a Cup. I don't think any non-Cup winners should have their numbers retired, but that's just me.

John Tavares.

Had LaFontaine not asked to be traded and then held out I would have been in favor of retiring his 16. Nobody else really rates a retired number at this time.

I think you meant 3 at once - Lafontaine, Palffy and Reasoner. No?

#39 is tainted.

With all due respect to Hubie McDonough.

none, the only Isles who should have their # retired are already up there

maybe if Tavares is on the Islanders for the next 10 years and is a dominant player and gives us a cup, he can join them, but for now we do not need anymore

Lafontaine left the Island in a contract dispute. So, I doubt he seen that highly by ownership.

And, I'd argue that he never really performed to his potential while he was here. It was not until his first year in Buffalo that we really saw a motivated Lafontaine.

I'm actually thinking of the unspoken retired number - 39.

Superstition's a pain.

Even as a youngster I think Tonelli deserves it and maybe Lafontaine. Goring and Ziggy should be in the Isles Hall of Fame.

If we can retire a bowtie how about a microphone for Jiggs McDonald or Stan Fischler
