I like the arrogance of this.

It's false news by Jatkoaika.

http://www.iltalehti.fi/smliiga/2013...51002_sm.shtml

SM-liiga name stays, logo gets updated though.

Edit. it's not false. Iltalehti updated their news.

Well, SM-liiga didn't refer to a sport either.

Well it´s easy to fill in sponsors name into it. Karjala-Liiga or Länsi-auto-liiga or Lännen puhelin-liiga.

ES(Euro Shopper) Liiga would be more appropriate.

That´s a good one too. I think it´s stupid to change league name if there´s no benefit.

I like it, much better than logo of SHL

Still dont get it, SM-Liiga was great and unique name in hockey world (yes, not in finnish enviroment as I see it). The same Elitserien, so unique.

Hope Liiga will not get sponsor name as czech Tipsport extraliga

I don't know. I liked the name SM-liiga because it had a long tradition by now. And whenever I talked with someone who was not that much into international hockey there was a good laugh about what the SM in the league's name meant.

ps:

is it a coincidence that Swedish and Finnish leagues have major name changes at the same time?

1975 division 1 -> elitserien / sm-sarja -> sm-liiga
2013 elitserien -> shl / sm-liiga -> liiga

Probably not. Finland has a great tradition of following Sweden's lead. Of course there's always other parameters, but Sweden is never insignificant.

Reaching for the German market?

Seriously. I saw Lüga when looking at the logo and thought "what the h*ll?"

Everything cool and modern these days is black&white, so we must do the same thing!

That's worse than the old one. Jesus.

Here's the meeting:

Guy-in-the-suit#1 - "Well then... what's the new name of our league?"

Guy-in-the-suit#2 - "How about League?"

Guy-in-the-suit#3 - "Sounds good to me. Let's get drunk now."

*Meeting wrapped up*
