Heading to Vancouver in a few hours (first time ever visiting the city...and Canada for that matter)... And of course I'm waiting until the last minute to book a place to stay. So I'm needing some last minute advice on a hotel. I've narrowed it down to two, The Empire Landmark and The Listel. Does anyone know anything about these two hotels and if one is better than the other? I'm really wanting to stay downtown for this visit and hope to just explore the city a bit and of course do some serious shopping.

Thanks!

For the price, i've always been a fan of L'Hermitage as a hotel in vancouver, i've worked in just about every hotel in the city and for the price, that was one of the best. They have amazing modern kitchens unlike most too, great for making drinks before you go out. and right near the main drag

Sandman on Davie is surprisingly pretty good, they have a great jacuzzi suite and a patio with a killer view too and well priced

this is the view from the sandman/davie

and the jacuzzi! which you can see the view from

I have stayed at the two you mentioned but i barely remember them so probably nothign that stands out about them

ohhh i always forget about the plaza, theres a part of the year where its only like 150 and its better than the 500-1000 dollar hotels i've stayed at, though its probably regular price now, closer to a few hundred... but its amazing.. full kitchen, huge bedroom, office etc

this is carmana: (more like a typical condo)

Anyway those are my suggestions, and im taking into account cost too Ive never been a fan of the hotel rooms that have those hideous hotel looks to them, its as if they haven't changed their style for decades, even the most expensive hotels are still rather ugly. theyre usually the size of closets too

sorry if i didn't help . lol

Thanks! The first two you mentioned don't appear to have any availability on such short notice but I'll definitely keep them in mind for my future visits... Really LOVE the L'Hermitage, looks wonderful! The Plaza was a bit more than I wanted to spend on such short notice (which is my fault for waiting until the last minute). I actually really liked MODA and The Victorian but they too weren't available at such short notice. The Empire Landmark and the Listel have availability and seem to be in a good place for parking the car at the hotel and walking to various places.

Now let's just hope they'll let me across the border!

Yeah L'hermitage gets booked up rather quickly, its definitely one of the most popular.

The only one i haven't checked out that i wouldn't mind is Opus Hotel, looks pretty nice in the pictures.

Anyway good luck on your trip! i sometimes wish i didn't live here, just so i could visit the place, it'd be much more exciting

I thought I'd like it... I wanted to like it...

But Wendy's pretzel burger was a fail for me.

I liked it. I guess this means we're mortal enemies now.

Weren't we already?

Me and my wife got one each... both looked different. They were obviously thrown together by some trainee (there were about 12 kids training in the back there) Cheese sauce dumped all on one spot, tomato slices stacked on top of each other rather than spread out, nowhere near enough onion, soggy bacon...

Very dry, very disappointing.

I love Wendy's but this one was a fail. Even if it was made perfectly I still wouldn't have been crazy about it. Didn't like the burnt bread smell of the pretzel bun as I put the burger up to my face.

BRING BACK THE BACON MUSHROOM MELT!!!

Never fails: go to town on a bunch of peanut M&Ms, and the last one has a gross peanut in it that leaves a gross taste in your mouth

Every time I hear someone mention Jonathan Toews as a potential captain for team Canada at the Olympics I want to throw up. I personally dislike him and I would not feel good about Canada's chances with that little rat wearing the C.

The scary thing is there aren't a ton of other options out there after Crosby, Mike Richards and Shea Weber.

Crosby will be the captain with Toews one of the assistants.

I agree that it should be Crosby, but you know there will be a strong media contingent (particularly out East) that will oppose his captaincy with the typical criticism we hear from the anti-Crosby crowd.

If Crosby does get the C, I would love to see Mike Richards get an "A". He's matured a lot since his party days in Philly. He's been huge for the Kings in the dressing room and is one of those guys that elevates his game on the big stage.

Sometimes I wonder why I even bother voting. Seriously, what is wrong with our provincial politicians?

"The price of a litre of bottled water in B.C. is often higher than a litre of gasoline.

However, the price paid by the world’s largest bottled water company for taking 265 million litres of fresh water every year from a well in the Fraser Valley — not a cent.

Because of B.C.’s lack of groundwater regulation, Nestlé Waters Canada — a division of the multi-billion-dollar Switzerland-based Nestlé Group, the world’s largest food company — is not required to measure, report, or pay a penny for the millions of litres of water it draws from Hope and then sells across Western Canada."

Ugh.

I'd go Richards as our captain, personally.

I hate it when someone owes me, I ask if I can pick it up they say "sure in a bit". 4 ****ing hours later I don't have my money and this guy won't even answer his phone.

In times like these just ask yourself: WWMCD?

What would Michael Corleone do?
