you Swedes are funny. This is preseason. When we start to compete in the spring time (when teams are at their best) and if the results are the same, come brag again.

What about a change of who plays in the tournament and the tournament should be played in the future within the regular season, not as pre-season tournament? And they would play 8 groups with 4 teams each (6) games just like UEFA CL but only the group leaders make it to the next round. So the maximum games for a team would be 12.

I'd say the first x teams of the championship of a certain league should qualify:

Sweden, Finland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Germany, Switzerland (4)
Austria (2)
Norway, Denmark, Belarus, Italy, UK (1)
Last spot will be found in qualification between the champions of France, Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, Iceland, Turkey, Ukraine, Latvia, MOL

The teams that fail in the qualification join the other teams for IIHF Continental Cup.

Sounds about right to me. I've stressed before the importance of having the group stage mid-season but it's heading in the right direction with the finals held in the winter, atleast.

Swe-Fin bickering is so cute. Never mind we've never even had a single conflict between us, much less a war. And we're much more simillar than we like to admit.

I read it on twitter...

Looks like streak will end, as JYP leads Vienna 2:0 in begining of 2nd period.

Who cares, it's preseason. Some teams actually might train hard atm. Though I admit more wins would be nicer to enter the regular season

I can't really care too much for this tournament since my home town team, the reigning champions of the finnish league aren't participating (Porin Ässät), but as an "outsider" I really don't see what's with all the fuzz about the finnish league teams "embarrasing finnish hockey". Went and checked the league tables from europeantrophy.com and as it appears the finnish teams are so far 27 games, 12 wins, 3 ties and 12 losses in the tournament. Doesn't strike me as particularly good nor bad performance. Besides we should probably count Jokerit (4-1-0-3) off as it is a KHL team playing one more season in the finnish league. Replace Jokerit with, say, Ässät and the statistics would be far more in the favor of the finnish league.

Maybe, but Ässät lost against Modo and barely beat Allsvenska Timrå in overtime, not sure how great they would do in ET. The Swedish champions are not participating either btw

They pretty much iced their junior team against Timrå (resting guys like Hagman, Kreps, Umicevic, Cohen, Riksman, Uusitalo, Sammalkangas etc.) so obviously the score would've been uglier with both teams icing their top players. My last sentence was halfly made on a joking manner but still I do believe Ässät would have done better in this European Trophy than Jokerit so far and I'm actually pretty certain that they would do great. And I do know SAIK isn't participating, that is the team I root for in SHL and I even have them listed as one of my favorite teams on another forum. I don't see why you seem to have taken my last post as a strike against the swedish teams but that it was definately not. I'm merely pointing out the fact that the finnish teams haven't done overly impressing nor disappointing job in the tournament so far.

FEL teams won alot again sweden earlier years and have won games this year too, so you think we did drop level so much for this year anyway. Well IQ hasn't really ever been the strongest part of you guys on that side of the sea!

Jokerit beat IFK 2-0 at Hartwall Areena (attendance 7700). Gillies didn't fight. Teräväinen scored both goals.
