Oilers-Islanders

Oilers receive:

Travis Hamonic
Johan Sundstrom
Thomas Marcinko

Islanders receive:

Jeff Petry
2015 1st
Corey Potter
Ben Eager
Martin Gernat
Tyler Bunz

Oilers get a much needed physical right handed defenceman, a big centerman, and a big right winger. Overall the Oilers add size and grit with the Petry-Hamonic swap.

Islanders get a better two way player in Petry, as well as a decent puck moving depth defenceman with Potter. Eager can play 4th line on a team that doesn't have many natural left wingers. Gernat and Bunz are mid range prospects.

NYI get:Oilers scraps.

Oilers get: 23 yd old Hamonic, who the isles think is developing into a stud.

Counter offer: Hall for Reinhart, Clutterbuck , 1st.

No thanks. Isles aren't interested in moving their only top-pairing defenseman for a downgrade, a 1st two years from now that could end up being in the 20's, and a bunch of average pieces.

There are probably two guys in the Isles organization that they won't trade barring massive overpayment or an upgrade coming back, and Hamonic would be one of them.

Why so much crap added in? You could have made it Petry, Gernat and 2015 1st for Hamonic. Also, the Isles value Hamonic incredibly high. Despite the value being fair in the modified deal, they still say no.

Imagine them offering Strome and a 2015 1st for the Nuge. In theory the value would be close, but I'd say a big hell no. Your deal is similar.

Interesting bit of trivia about Hamonic: He was actually selected with an EDM draft pick. If you guy will recall, EDM traded MAB and 3rd for Grebs. They then send a 2nd back for the third (needing their original third to sign Penner). The Isles used the 2nd to draft Hamonic.

I agree that it's heavily in favour of the Oilers but Petry isn't a scrap.

Petry isn't scrap, but quanity-for-quality proposals usually don't bring out a lot of balanced discussion.

Hamonic is a long, long way from being at that level.

If he turns into the next Robyn Regher, I will be thrilled.

One upside to the seven year deal, is that we will have lots of time to develop him properly.

Scraps, spare parts...whatever.

There is not one player in the OP, coming back to LI, worth giving up Hamonic.

Jeff Petry is gold today. I'm also happy no one really has witnessed Jeff Petry in Edmonton.

Hamonic is too important to the Isles D. Isles will patiently let Strome/ B. Nelson develop and look to them for top 6 scoring.

I don't think the Isles touch this with a 20 foot pole.

Basically, Hamonic is as important to the defense as Tavares is to the offense. He'll probably be the longtime secondary captain with a permanent A on his jersey. Snow is counting on him to be the backbone of the blue line by giving him a 7-year extension. He is going nowhere.

Hamonics awesome, but I wouldnt even trade Petry straight up for Hamonic. Petry's just as important to the Oil as Hamonic is to the Isles, despite the value comparisons.

Just lol. EDM fans always want to trade Eberle it's funny. Okposo still young and decent player and Hamonic could turn into a stud. IMO Hamonic>>>>>Eberle. Hamonic have a nice frendly contract. Eberle is a top 6 winger for sure, but a top pairing D is more valuable in my mind.

No chance Hamonic move. Just take a look at NYI defense without Travis lol.

Visnovsky - Macdo
Hickey - Strait
Carkner - Finley

Don't be ridiculous. As of right now, Petry is the best player in the deal (certainly not saying that won't change)

I love how Hamonic is a top pairing defenceman, but Eberle is just a top 6 winger
