So, the Oilers get a stud defenceman, under contract for the next 7 years and a middling prospect (Marcinko is nothing, not ever likely to return to North America).

Quote:
Jeff Petry
2015 1st
Corey Potter
Ben Eager
Martin Gernat
Tyler Bunz
And the Islanders get an inferior defenceman, a guy Edmonton fans have wanted gone for a few years now, a guy the Oilers couldn't give away on waivers, a middling to good prospect, and a potential goalie many, many years away (When the Isles already have a pretty good amount of goalie prospects in their system) and a 1st round pick coming in two years when the Oilers could very well be a playoff team.

Not really a good offer when you look at it like that, is it?

Islanders get a better two way player in Petry,
How do you come to that conclusion? Hamonic is just as good in his own end as Petry is, and Hamonic has put up equal seasons points-wise, too (26, 24, 10 vs. Petry's 10 (prorated), 25 and 12).

Quote:
as well as a decent puck moving depth defenceman with Potter. Eager can play 4th line on a team that doesn't have many natural left wingers.
If either of those things were true, don't you think Edmonton would be hanging on to them?!

Welcome to HFboards, where putting up 76 points as a 21 year old makes you a washed up 2nd liner

Not a fair trade but this is far from true, he isn't scraps or spare parts.

Can't see why Hamonic would be traded. He is exactly what the Isles defense needs and is signed for the next seven years.

Oilers get a much needed physical right handed defenceman, a big centerman, and a big right winger. Overall the Oilers add size and grit with the Petry-Hamonic swap.

Islanders get a better two way player in Petry, as well as a decent puck moving depth defenceman with Potter. Eager can play 4th line on a team that doesn't have many natural left wingers. Gernat and Bunz are mid range prospects.

Oilers fan saying that the Isles don't touch this one....

Apologies to NYI fans for this.

I want an apology as well if you're handing them out.

Can't either unless it's an automatic upgrade on defence for Snow which isn't happening and we all know what the defence looks like on paper without Hamonic.

Jeff Petry can hit, Jeff Petry can contribute, I don't see MacTavish in any rush to trade him either plus the Klefbom and Marincin hype are for real.

I'd love to acquire Hamonic but unfortunately he's an untouchable.

I know that Hamonic has a lot of value, but there's no way in hell Edmonton would cough up that much for him. I think that Petry is being incredibly undervalued here.

I'm a fan of neither team, but on what planet is Petry a better two way defenseman than Hamonic?

It's debatable who is the better two way defenceman at the moment. Jeff Petry also plays physical and I see him out producing Hamonic the next few seasons.

Travis Hamonic has more potential than Jeff Petry we all know that but some people definitely need to check out a western conference game every now and then. Three year difference only.

If you think Petry is crap, clearly you're oblivious to players not on your team

Hamonics got a great shot, but can he hit the net? no

He played his first full "season" this past shortened year.. has had some injury issues... may affect his future game..

He can log alot of minutes and be a shut down guy.. He's also a big hitter.. but it takes him out of position.. and he loses his defensive coverage.. which also leads to him taking bad penalties...has a temper on him..likely stemmed from growing up in St.Malo/St.Pierre Manitoba.. That being said I don't even know why I would want him to log alot of minutes.. at least until he matures..

Petry>Hamonic

Lousy trade for the Islanders. Quantity for quality. The Islanders locked up Hamonic for 7 years because he is the backbone of their defense. They aren't moving him for Petry + scraps. The only way I could see Snow moving him is if it was in a package to obtain a true #1 guy like a Pietrangelo type who is on a long term deal or will sign one. I'm a Ranger fan here, and I like Edmonton so this isn't bias...

My comparison to this deal as a Ranger fan would be if I offered Callahan (obviously quality) for Hall (obviously better), and to even things up I threw in Asham, Pyatt, Powe and a pick 2 years from now who likely wouldn't touch the ice until 2018 if he ever does. That's just not going to get it done...

Hamonic will not be trade for Petry.

If Hamonic is traded it will be for an overpayment and the OP is an underpayment.

I disagree that Petry is currently better then Hamonic,. Does not matter. Snow gave Hamonic is 7 yr/$27m extension, isles love how he is developing .
One playoff round is not a big enough sample size, but Hamonic looks like one of those players who will be a beast in the postseason.

Oilers are offering useless scrap for quality, why am I not surprised?

Edit: Yes, Petry has some value...but he isn't that valuable anywhere outside Edmonton

I'm laughing at the Petry>Hamonic claim.

I'm a fan of neither team and I can easily say Hamonic is a top 30 D-man in the league while Petry is around the top 50 mark.

As for the proposal, Bunz, Potter and Eager are all pretty useless. A long shot prospect(like Marcinko) in Bunz and 2 potential waiver claims in Potter and Eager. Eager may be worth a late pick...

Gernat is an ok prospect. But the Isles have a bunch of other, arguably better big defensive prospects in Reinhart, Pulock, Mayfield, Pelech and Pedan. Plus offensive minded smaller guys in DeHaan and Donovan. He is also a useless piece for the Isles.

So Petry and a 1st for Hamonic and Sundstrom. Not very good for NY.
