Gallagher

Inspired by the HF Article on the Top 20, what kind of a chance do you think Gallagher has of suffering the sophomore jinx? I would like to think there is little chance, but I imagine history would say his chances are higher than I think. His style of play coupled with his size makes him prone to injury (and not just next season) but I think he will play his heart out whenever he is on the ice and he will will himself to succeed.

Depends on the ice time he receives.

Most rookies are given sheltered minutes, and in their sophomore years, a lot of them are given harder minutes against tougher competition. This is why the "sophomore slump" exists, IMO, it's an adjustment for any young player to go from playing against 3rd pairing D and bottom-6s to playing against top-4 D and middle-6s, or even straight up top-6s.

I think he'll be just as good, maybe not be score 30, but I think he is good for 20 goals every year.

Just like Gionta, even when he is having a bad year, he'll mange to get 20 goals just because he goes to the next so often.

Gointa has lost a step lately, but the guy is good for 20 goals just because he hangs around the net.

This, plus other teams will take notes and will try and contain players they really didn't pay much attention to since it was their first year.

Good point. The Gallys will start to be a priority in the other team's game plan. But whatever, I think they will be fine.

What I like about our young players now (Gallys, Eller, Patches, Subban, Tinordi) is that there is absolutely no questions about their level of dedication. They all train extra hard and are very serious about their careers. And it shows because they all have been trending upwards since their junior days.

The only exceptions here are Beaulieu and maybe to a lesser extent, Leblanc. And they can still turn it around anyway. I'd rather have it that way instead of how it was before, with Higgins, the Kostitsyns, Tender etc. The talent was there, obviously, but there were many many questions marks as well.

I think Gallagher is an amazing young player, however I think his point plateau won't be that high. In other words, he might reach his peak early. Other aspects of his game, however, will keep growing. We've seen more of his talent and potential than say Galchenyuk, who's sky is the limit.

I expect many are going to be disappointed if he doesn't score much more points per game or even less than last year. They shouldn't, he had a great season and repeating the exact same thing would still be great.

Hopefully I'm wrong and he develops as some kind of scoring machine. Personally I see him peaking around 50 to 60 points, not much more than that. His belligerent and pugnacious attitude makes him worth much more than a typical 50pt winger of course.

I don't think he'll have the sophomore slump, just because of his dedication and work ethic are too good for him to have a slump. If he can reach 20 goals, that'd be good, and anything over 25 would be very good. I think he'll reach 30 sometime in his career, just maybe not this year. A realistic prediction for his totals this year (IMO) are 25 goals, 20-25 assists, 45-50 points.

Gallagher's chances are better to have a sophomore slump than his chances of playing for Team Canada at the Olympics in Sochi. They should always allow for a player who exceeds anybodies expectations leading up to the Olympics, to earn the right to challenge for any position open.

One thing is for sure, he will show up ready. His father trains Him. This kid is determined to succeed.

I know that bringing up stats from his WHL career is nothing to base anything off of. Older players get more responsibilities.

These are his stats from the WHL:

Age 17-72GP-41G-40A-81P-1.13PPG team finished 16 games above 500 plus 9
Age 18-66GP-44G-47A-91P-1.38PPG team finished 3 games above 500 plus 29 (led team in +/- and next best was plus 11)
Age 19-54GP-41G-36A-77P-1.43PPG team finished 14 games above 500 plus 19

His PPG went up every year.

To be honest, I don't believe at all in sophomore jinx. I do however believe in sophomore complaisance, guys thinking that they have it made, that their spots are secured, and rapidly forgetting what brought them to that level. For most players, it's temporary.

Gallagher doesn't strike me as a complaisant type of guy so I expect him to keep on improving, especially with Josh Gorges as a mentor, he who had never had anything given to him.

His style of play combine with the hits he will suffer during a 82 games/season will wear him down eventually.

If we want him to be succesful, we need to surround him with tough and talented guys.

Brendan Gallagher is a Brad Marchand clone for the Habs, but with a beautiful nose.

Ugh. Ugly Nose doesn't belong in the same sentence as Gallagher. He is one guy I would never want on my team.

If he keeps his game simple, I expect a consistant season, which I'm totally OK with.

I think Gallagher will produce similarly to Ryan Callahan and will be a major piece at the center of the team's core. You don't hear it mentioned much but I see him eventually wearing a letter.....maybe even the "C".

Seeing Marchand in the playoffs, I'd have him on my team for sure. He's turning into a helluva player.

Hah amazing line. Let's be honest here though, I think any fan would take a talented superpest like Marchand on their team. And I'm a hardcore Bruins hater like the rest of you.
