I agree. Going into the playoffs last season i thought that Plekanec to Chicago would have been a good fit...its an obvious "need' when you look at the Hawks roster. But they managed to win a cup without adding a legit 2nd line C, so why would they bother giving up big assets and cap space to acquire one at this point?

From a Montreal POV i wouldn't give up Plekanec for those 2 prospects.

I believe we have a 2c in that of pirri and tuevo in the next few years. Lettuce be cereal its not like the hawks are going to repeat so give the kids a shot at 2c and get some NHL under their belts

The point wasn't that Handzus is a legit 2nd line center, it was the exact opposite. The Hawks can roll someone who clearly is not a legit 2nd line center and still go all the way.

With that in mind, why should the Hawks pay for premium players like Pleks when they've proven they can win with only putting passable players there like Handzus or (potentially) Pirri?
... proven they can prevail ...

Pirri or Saad will start the year as #2 C... Handzus is insurance and our #12/13 forward that will get lots of rest during the season.

We won the Cup without a #2 C, why should we give away big assets AND Cap Space we don't have when it's not that bad of a need as some make it out to be?

I'd rather give the AHL Top Scorer a chance that was drafted with a 2nd and paid his dues in the minors than give away 2 1st rounders and 5 million in Cap Space while they have proven they are able to overcome this hole on the roster
