Early line combos for training camp? Expect 19-88 and 39-12 to stay together, but other than that things are TBD, says McLellan. #SJSharks

Pretty much what everyone expected.
I'm getting the impression that the Sharks want Havlat to first get healthy. Then, before he even plays in a game, work with their strength and conditioning coaches to try to prevent him from getting hurt this season. McLellan made a comment in the exit interviews about Havlat's training methods and how they might want to adjust them. Seems like the best time to put their stamp on his training/strength etc. would be now.

Quote:
“Marty had that [surgery] and he’s worked really hard,” McLellan said. “He’s right on schedule, from what I’ve been told. But, to put him in a situation where he’s not ready, and at risk, makes no sense. He’s got to really get strong to get to where he needs to be. I can tell you he’s worked hard, which is a really good sign. He continues to follow the program here.”
That's good to hear from McLellan.

Trust me, I want Pavs as long term 3C for sure. However, we have Hertl getting a long look + Sheppard who are both offensively inclined centers and it would be nice to see them get a chance in pre-season.

I think barring some kind of major showing that Pavs should be lined up on the third line...but I think it is wise to leave that spot up for grabs and see if anyone takes the chance.

The quotes regarding Havlat seem to indicate the staff has already had quite a bit to say about his rehab.

I can't imagine him being on LTIR for very long, but playing the pre-season is not a reality right now, nor does it make sense.

hockey can't come soon enough

Again, I understand what they're doing...competition makes everyone better.

I'm sure Hertl is going to get time in camp and in pre-season at both wing and center and that's great.

Sheppard, while much better as a center then at wing, has about zero chance of centering any of the top 3 lines and I can't imagine them using him in that role at all during training camp or pre-season.

Everyone loves an underdog!!! Sheppard is my darkhorse for 1st line center.

Seriously though, I'm hoping that Sheppard makes some big strides this season. Whether or not that is rational, well, I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

I'm hoping he makes some big strides too and he should be coming into camp with something to prove after finally being able to play most of a season and then being healthy enough to properly train this summer.

I'd really love to see him as the 4th line C with Wingels on his RW but I don't even think that's likely.

What makes you say that? Has Sheppard even had a real training camp with the Sharks?

I think there is plenty of scrimmages/drills and pre-season line up shuffles that he should get a look there. He was too good for the 4th line, and hes not really a checking forward. Really wouldn't hurt anything to see how hes looking in his natural position. I don't think hes at that level yet, but everyone should get the chance because the management can't predict the future.

Just like Hertl will probably get time in several different positions, including our toughest line with marleau/couture-Sheppard should also get a look.

I agree that him centering the 4th probably isn't that likely. He should get a chance to battle with Wingels and Hertl for the last two spots in the top 9 while Havlat is recovering.

Ya, I think it's going to be a great competition between Nieto, Schwartz, Sheppard, Hertl and Wingels for what should be 2 open wing spots on the top 3 lines. I'm not totally ruling out Tarasov either, though he's kind of a long shot.

It's been a long, long, long, long time since the Sharks had decent wing depth.

Yeah, I honestly don't remember the last time that was the case. Really looking forward to camp getting going and the preseason games. They better be on TV.

FWIW, Pollak (Merc), McKeon (Chronicle) and Kurz (CSN) were at Captain's Ice today.

Pollak stopped and said hi. Kurz thanked me for responding to his query last week. McKeon looked happy to be recognized and back on hockey beat.

Have the sharks released a training camp roster yet?

I'm trying to find out if one of the Free Agents who played in the prospect camp ( Defenseman Spenser Jensen) made an impression or possibly invited to main camp??

The Sharks will probably release their camp roster later today after they've split the players into two groups and I'd be surprised if Jensen was on the roster / invited.

Tomorrow (1st skating day of camp) they will have camp rosters available for fans. I'm not sure if they realease anything on line...I usually just get one at the camp.

In 2011, I seem to recall the roster only being released online.

(Obviously nothing for 2013 camp)

IIRC, none were on TV but some were streamed online last season?

Sharks have "traditionally" had radio feeds for only last two preseason games. (Sometimes online only, rather than OTA.)

Sharks PS games have only been on TV or streamed if the other team is doing it.

Thanks, I remember having to sit through the Duck feeds in the past years

This is apparently the training camp roster (or a relative facsimile thereof).

I'm beginning to wonder if they're ever gonna figure out that Eriah Hayes is a forward
