I think we are using this thread for non UFAs. In saying that, I did meet Leland Irving and even had a photo with the guy back when he was 17. It was the Ivan Hlinka tournament. Actually, that year I had dinner with the team because I helped them out a bit. Anyway, that kid is a good goalie..like a fricken wall...I just don't know what happened. I would chance him to increase our AHL/ECHL depth and if he turns a corner, I would be more than happy to see him suit up in an Isles uniform.

Bring Martinek back IMO. Is a very solid depth player and won't get hurt as easily if you don't play him as much.

you know, a lot of guys would fit, for the short term, but i worry mostly about signing guys that have bad attitudes. since i'm not privy to a lot of behind the scenes happenings, and can't say much any about players attitude, i can only hope that we pick up some gritty role type players with good attitudes, and a decent goalie.

by the way, i'm big on rookies too. i love to follow them, silently cheer them on... developing is an art form, for me. i used to be involved at the lower levels, and i loved to see kids growing and gaining confidence. not just as hockey players, but as human beings as well. any team sport has lots of good life lessons to offer.

I would try to invite guys from SC Bern if that's possible. Tavares' linemate was Byron Ritchie (36) but they had a lot of chemistry together there and he is a former NHL player. I'd give him an invite.

I would have invited Gilbert Brule, but he's going to Phoenix's camp.
No thanks, Shremp 2.0. Watched him down here with the Panthers and he just couldn't get it done at the NHL level. And he is 36 years old!! Never hit double digits in goals in the NHL.

Wanted this guy the year he was drafted. I would love to see the Isles give him a shot.

tim thomas , martinek or some other dude willing to sit in pressbox to collect 7ook

it would be an oddball tandem (nabby/thomas) but it would solidify chances to make playoffs .

the thrifty isles seem more interested in seeing what they have in Poulin though .

This would be great — if Tim Thomas is willing to be part of a tandem. The rumors about his contract demands so far seem to suggest otherwise. He might be waiting for a starter to go down in-season; it seems like he might rather just stay retired then be a role player.

Yep, he can just hang around and wait his turn.

HOWEVER, there is a limit on players who are on the official roster for any given gameday and this includes those who'd be sitting in the press box.

edit: sorry that i didn't see the earlier thread

Per Staple's twitter, looks like we're not inviting another goalie to camp; Martinek will be getting an invite; and Brad Boyes is a possibility.

Before everyone freaks out about that last one: I can't imagine, with Bouchard on the team and Strome waiting in the wings, he'd be re-slotted on the first line. Sure, there are a lot of deficiencies to his game, but he's shown he can rack up points. If he'll only cost a camp invite there's no reason not to see if he can help provide us with three capable scoring lines.

Too late bro, I'm freaking out.

I agree with your reasoning, but for every 'good' play by Boyes, there is 15 or 16 turnovers and I think I'm being generous.

yea, JT created a lot of chances for him, so his goal scoring (really his only strength) was useful. but on other lines, i think he will be even more of a liability.

IF PMB was hurt, and we could put Boyes on waivers after PMB returns, maybe. you could argue that Strome could fill in, but he might **** the bed and then we'd be stuck.

i am having trouble sleeping, and this isn't helping...

boyes is useless. he's not even worth a depth spot. i'd rather give it to a hungrier young player.

Seems likely D Radek Martinek will come to #Isles camp on PTO. Brad Boyes apparently choosing between #Isles and one other team.
