How so?

He's the captain, and has had a much larger sample size then Kadri has.

Sample size-wise, not right now. But he will when the contract kicks in.

Games Played:
Landeskog - 118
Kadri - 99

Points:
Landeskog - 69
Kadri - 63

Points-Per-Game:
Landeskog - 0.58
Kadri - 0.64

The differences being that Landeskog is their Captain, he's just 20 years old, is extremely good defensively, has proven himself over a full season and has a Calder trophy to his name.

I agree that this contract really doesn't make a difference when it comes to Kadri, though. Still looking at a 2-year bridge deal.

Bridge deal no bridge deal Colorado over payed for potential in hopes they get a bargain in the long run... This is what teams do when they believe in there top young guys that haven't exactly developed in there full potential but believe they will.

If Kadri signs to a bridge deal I'm all for it but can the Leafs afford to start the year without Kadri if that's not something he's willing to do?

I may be bias on this cause I believed in Kadri from the beginning he's the real deal and I wouldn't be looking at a bridge deal with him. I would be looking into buying UFA years from him that would be a bargain in the long run but that's just me.

I really hope we can get Franson at 4M. That would be a sweet contract if his post season was in any way indicative of what he can become

It'd be great if we could sign him to a JVR-esque deal, but that's just not possible with our cap situation.

Its fine if he gets Picked up (IMO), Frasers a UFA next year, and the chances of the leafs resigning him is literally less than 5%. Plus Fraser had the highest PDO in the league and was carried by Franson all year, after this year he's going back to the AHL where he belongs.

Franson was tied for 6th in the league for points by a defenseman last season after signing a bridge contract. Why no pay day when he is scheduled for UFA in a couple of years? He earned his pay day. What does Nonis say to him, that he won't get a raise unless he leads all D in points this season?

PK Subban took $2.87 mil on a bridge deal and won the Norris.

Nonis should offer that and say do that .

i would not go over 3.5 with franson, thats fair price i dont no what hes looking for...kadri probably worth around 4.5 going by league standards...still if they take pay cuts thats 7-8m to get them both back.....thats a lot of work and creative thinking and not a lot of time

He's earned his payday after basically a half season of play? And you feel that he should quadruple his salary because of that historic 6th place finish? Maybe Nonis says he gets a big raise when he can do it more than 1 year in a row. Oh, and Nonis has ALL the power here. He will sign for what Nonis thinks is fair or he won't be playing.
Franson has been getting better and better in certain Leaf fans minds over the course of the off season. It's amazing watching it happen especially with non fans who now see Franson as critical to the Leafs success like Subban is to the Habs.

The fact that it was a shortened season doesn't mean we can just ignore his play and pay him whatever we feel like.

That's "fair" based on what, exactly?

And how did you come up with 4.5M for Kadri? What league standards?

He's RFA which means he has little leverage to demand we pay him whatever he feels like.

I'm surprised that so many people think this would be different if we had more cap space. I would be severely disappointed if that were indeed true.

u dont go to transaction board and see how much players around the league are making these days?

kadri is worth about 4.5ish long term 4-5 year signing...3-3.5ish for 2 years
franson is 3-3.5 at least

obviously the players and their agents for looking for and believe that they are worth about 1-2mill more each than wut the leafs want to offer cus of cap situation, or else they would be signed already with 4 weeks till camp

This is the case with every RFA, yet they still get paid.

Nonis and company kind of screwed up our cap situation chasing dreams. Two lovely fantasy contracts with Bozak and Clarkson, the Bernier unexpected payment and rental player in Bolland tied our hands nice. They were in a rush to do what they did and got nothing for players who may have had an off year. If this team doesn't perform exceptionally it will beat me down worse then the game 7 loss.

I don't see a better team, if so, it's marginal and a bigger concern, Kulemin will walk or be traded because those contracts.

Being perhaps 1 million or 2 short of signing the two players you have left to sign with and month and a half left to go in the summer isn't a terribly screwed up cap situation.
