Is Andrej Meszaros the likely odd man out in Philadelphia?

Here is why I think so:

http://thehockeywriters.com/andrej-m...y-odd-man-out/

Who do you think will be the guy(s) to go this upcoming season?

I think as soon as he is healthy he will be trade bait. I like Meszaros but lately he's injury prone and at 4mil? Would probably fit on a team in the west.

Flyers and Canes are good trading partners so we'll see what happens.

I'm a big Mez fan and would hate to see him go but he just doesn't fit here long term or short term. He's too expensive and too much of a health risk and not worth re-signing long term.

Mez (coupled with others) would look good in a Blues uniform.

Haha. I don't see it happening at all. It'd be nice to get who you are talking about. We would over pay big time. And given what we have now. I don't think it's a good idea

My guess is Mez for a mid round pick (somewhere from 3-5) or a mid level prospect (pretty much a dime-a-dozen kind of player). I'll take either one because I don't see how they can get under the cap, especially if the Cleary rumors prove to be true.

Was there some rumours that Homer was after T.Ruutu last trade deadline or year before?

I can see Ruutu in Flyers. Hardworking two-way guy who can hit hard and often. Both are injuryguys but it could be a deal. Maybe Hurricanes can keep some little salary?

I'm not sure if we can find anybody to take Mez off our hands let alone give up something of value in return RIGHT NOW.

We may have to showcase him a bit for teams to get interested in taking him & his caphit/salary.

One shift before he crumbles like a sand castle unfortunately won't be enough of a showcase...

Meh I like Ruutu but he's a tad overpaid considering is age, production, and injury history.

Maybe so but unfortunately I don't see many teams lining up to take him off our hands right now.

Idk about that. I get what you are saying, but if he is cleared to play I think a team would take a chance on him if they can get him for a discount. Guys with injuries are signed or traded all the time. He's under 30, has an excellent track record with regard to on-ice performance (despite what HF Boards would have you believe), and is on a one year deal. If he was older or some fringe NHLer or on a longer deal, I'd probably agree with you, but I think someone would be willing to take a shot with him. That being said, I wouldn't expect anything more than a third round pick (and that's top of the mark if we are lucky type deal).

Although his contract is a year it's a $4M cap hit & $5M in actual salary. That's not really enticing to neither cap or money conscious teams.

Mez will be a tougher sell than most expect on here.

Again, for a shot at a player like Mez, I don't think that it will make him untradeable. Slightly more difficult, perhaps in that the Devils and a couple other financially strapped teams will be eliminated, but I wager there are teams out there that can afford him and fit him under the cap that will be interested in him for the price of a song. Hell if there was opening here and Mez was available, I'd be interested in him for a mid round pick or prospect.

Time will tell but I'm not buying it.

He isn't made of glass but has had some bad luck the past 2 years.
torn Achilles tendon
torn rotator cuff

not glass type injuries... ever tear one?

This is my line of thought as well. People see injuries and assume that it's "injury prone" or being "made of glass," when in reality it's some hard luck.

Well aside from age, wouldn't that be good return for Mez? The only downside to that is Ruutu's 3 years left on his contract.
