Detroit/New Jersey

A thought, and a thought only. It's a long off season and I like capgeek.

So...

Brodeur
Barch

For

Gustavsson
Eaves
Samuelsson
2nd(13-14)

Reasoning:

New Jersey has aquired their goalie of the future, which leaves Marty as the backup, at a high cap hit.
In this trade, they get 3 serviceable players to flesh out the roster, all 3 being UFA's after this year.

The 2nd is for "value", Barch is for roster space.

After typing all this out, I'm fairly sure that NJ fans will call me a putz, but hey, I'm bored...

Any other thoughts of trade between these two?

Don't ever mention Brodeur in a trade proposal. Ever. Period.

Would you have traded Lidstrom for Zubrus, Josefson, Bernier and a 2nd?

the Devils just simply aren't going to trade Brodeur

they would never get what he was worth to both the team itself and the fanbase.

Okay....

First of all, there is no need for the Devils to trade Brodeur right now and it would be really dumb. Brodeur is a lifelong Devil. Secondly, Brodeur isn't needed in Detroit with Howard so I don't know how this makes sense.

As for the players coming to New Jersey, Devils already have too many forwards competing for roster spots. They are going to have to put at least one guy on waivers (one of Gionta, Tedenby, Olesz, Josefson, or Barch).

It just doesn't make sense at all.

The devils would never trade him being that he is the face of that franchise. Let him retire a devil please.

The Devils aren't trading Brodeur.

Howard is better than Schneider anyway so what is the point here. We at least know Howard can be a workhorse #1, is likely in front of Schneider in terms of Team USA right now. I just don't get this at all.

Oh, this will end well...

The only way he gets traded is if the devils are out of the playoff picture and they come to an agreement with Marty to give him 1 last chance at a cup run, kind of like a thank you for everything. Still, I think it's safe to say he retires a Devil.

Needless to say, the wings are only saving about a million and already have a starting goalie. If you were that bored, you had to have time to think it through...

Didn't the Wings just sign Howard to a new contract? Is he not the guy in Detroit or what?

I suspected these responses...and I won't lie, it's out there and I'm bored.

Detroit gets a better backup and roster room.

The devils get more depth, even if they have to waive a few guys, they still get better in areas they need to get better(scoring and PK depth). Healthy competition ya know?

Basically it's a cap move that evens out for both teams gaining something for a year.

Other than that, I fully understand why NJ would not trade Marty.

Really...Brodeur is so much better than Gustavsson. They get a one year bridge for bringing a backup that doesn't suck, until Mrazek is ready.

Also, it takes the workload off of Howard.

The wings saving a million is worth the time thinking it through...and more time was spent thinking of roster space...but thank you for responding.
