Yayyyyyy......

Finally, I wanted the Habs to get this guy at the deadline. Cost way too much so I was glad we stayed out, but I wanted him a top target this offseason.

The foot speed isn't an issue for him with the Habs. He will be paired with a mobile dman. Just like Gill was with Subban or another fast dman.

He is going to be brought in for #5 role to hit, clear the crease, and fight when needed. Toughness is what we needed and he brings it. Again speed won't be an issue as he would be paired with someone to aid in his weakness like he will do with the dman he paired with like an offensive dman.

You realize that the Sharks were a lot better with Murray out of the line-up right?

they must be really worried about Emelin.

A bit defensive for a simple correction, aren't we?

Would be curious to see the stats and a list of any "significant" players who may have been out of the lineup for any of those losses.

murray at 1.5 mill can definitely be used in such a way to give you the most bang for your buck.

he will probably improve your pk/5v3 numbers. he can also stand in with someone like subban against lower comp and subban can pretty much run wild. but id pick and choose those situations.

hes a good guy to dump at the deadline too, teams will consistently think they need a guy like that for the playoffs, and his showing in pitt didnt really hurt his standing. so its a decent short term investment to me.

do you guys have a young defender waiting in the wings that could step up as a #6?

Could just go by playstyle (team was able to play a lot faster), and by who replaced him. It looked like Todd McLellan played Murray so much last season in order to try and up his trade value; that and for some reason, he hates Demers. With Murray out of the line-up, Demers was finally able to play (and he's a lot better than Murray).

Call it "being defensive", but it was an obvious reply for someone who knows that the Sharks finished 1st and 2nd in the division during his last two years there, and 3rd in the division last year despite not one man game lost between Thornton, Marleau, Couture, and Pavelski.

A good amount of games lost with Havlat and Burns.
And it isn't like the Sharks were leading the division and suddenly dropped in the standings after they traded Murray...
If anything, it was the opposite.

I'm totally used to the fact that plenty of people are more attracted to sexier, yet not always more effective, styles of hockey. Been watching hockey for a while...

It's ironic to see most Sharks' fans being happy for Murray and liking the signing while a lot of fans from other teams, especially those in direct competition with the Habs, are trying to downplay it. Just sayin'...

I dunno if Moen gets "spanked" all that often, he mostly just ties up and hangs on and the results are pretty boring. He more answers the bell with fatalistic resignation than anything, he doesn't go after anybody, "spank" anybody, nor get spanked. It's all just a formality for him. But he'll presumably have less need to go through such formalities now (not because of Murray), anyway.

Ask them how many would like Murray on their 3rd pairing at that price and I'd doubt many would want that contract.

He played well for the most part for the Sharks - and that's the gratitude you're seeing from those fans (his past service).

You're going to dress all those players? The Habs are going to be an easy win if that's the case.

Again, the rest of Montreal's D core is very mobile (With the exception of the hobbled Markov, but he still isn't slow). If he can fill the reduced role that Gill (another Pylon) played here a few years ago it'll be a great fit. low risk as the Habs have other defenders that can also step in.

The 7 other forwards are all capable 20 goal scorers
