Oligny seems like a decent prospect. 40+ points in 65 games with 150+ PIM's. Only 5'10 but he is stocky at 190lbs
Hard for me to project a guy like that as a future NHL d-man. 42 points as a 19-20? year old in the Q. A good % of those he played against are younger. Undersized. Not much reach. Won't be much of a fighter as a pro. To me a smaller defenseman has to stand out at something. 42 points is good--it's not great. Kind of a lesser Marek Zidlicky/Andrew Ference in the making. Is he going to run a pwp or be a top 4? Not likely. For a 5-6-7 I'd definitely prefer players with more size than he has.

The unsigned guys--the one who might have something to me would be Wilson--projecting as a 4th line hitter/fighter but he'd need time to develop his overall game--as raw material he's something more to work with IMO.

I agree that he's not going to be a major fighter at the pro level, but it's never a bad thing to have that ability in your toolbox. From what people have told me, Oligny was more of a stay-at-home guy who broke out offensively this year and developed his two-way game considerably. Good skater with solid positioning and stick work. Someone also told me he's closer to 5'11 and is 'easily' 200lbs, but that's not confirmed. I think he could make some noise in TC.

Five more hours until the first game! Are there going to be live updates of the game from beat writers or local press?

Cerny is certainly suppose to be on top of the twitter conversation and updates for BSU and whatnot. Too bad we can't have a GTD. shame.

Anyone know if anyone from the other teams will be there as far as bloggers or beat writers?

Their Jim cerny seems cooler than our Jim cerny. I hope Jim is quick with posting interviews and highlights.

Hope you're more right than I am but it's a tough, tough road to the NHL if you're an under 6' defenseman. Oligny seems more ECHL/AHL than NHL. Looking at Charlie Dodero or Tommy Hughes the numbers aren't nearly as impressive especially in Hughes case but the size is there and both of them play physical as well and Dodero is really a good fighter at his level. These are more bottom pairing projectable than Oligny. You're not looking for offense from those types. Your looking for guys that can give you a more than less competent in their own end 10-12 minutes a night who aren't going to be overwhelmed by physical style 4th liners or if they get caught on the ice against a power forward. That to me is Justin Falk all over.

Along with size usually comes more reach as well. Reach means extra ice coverage--it helps with gap control. It's harder as hell to get around a guy like Chara or even our Marc Staal--lots of reach--quick sticks.

Meant scouting. Sorry no broadcast. RT @MHuss0731: @coreypronman Can you define coverage? Interested in the Traverse City Tournament.
Pronman didn't respond when I asked him if he was at Traverse City. I have a hard time believing ESPN has more than one hockey scout on staff.

Are you counting Barry Melrose? If you're not, they'll have 1 hockey scout and Barry Melrose there.

Grigorenko deemed ineligible for having played 25+ NHL games (no longer considered rookie). I'm assuming the same applies to Miller, and that is why he wasn't included in the squad...

Also wrist. His wrist injury seems like a persistent one.

I think they would just rather get a look at a few other players to see what they have. It's nice to win these tournaments but there is no point in sending players who are well above this level of competition. Miller and McIlrath would be physically dominating and that's not the point of this tournament. At least for the Rangers.

I've never been familiar with the level of skill at TCT but ya, we don't really need to see more of the same from them at a lower level of competition. As a fan though,
