The New York Rangers are the most valuable NHL franchise at $1.2 billion, taking the top spot on the Forbes list for the first time since 2004.

The magazine said Tuesday that Montreal is second at $1.18 billion, followed by Toronto at $1.15 billion.

Pierre LeBrun: Ducks looking for D, talking to Leafs amongst others

http://m.espn.go.com/general/blogs/b...rc=desktop&wjb

Pierre LeBrun says the Ducks are looking to acquire a young D-Man in exchange for a forward. Says Leafs, Penguins, Flyers involved in talks. Is this a chance to clean up the cap by including a young D-Man and Liles w/retained salary in exchange for a forward prospect???

I say Liles+Blacker for Smith-Pelley+4th.

If I were the Leafs, I would do all in my power in order to move Liles and give him a chance to play in the NHL where he belongs. Good player, and even a better person.

how can the flyers be involved? they have no defense! (well they do but that's the reason why they went hard for Streit).

I don'tknow much about Smith-Pelly, but I hope this workouts (and we can still retain salary), because this gets Liles playing.

Smith-Pelly is very overrated, he's been brutal at the NHL level. Granted his still young, but the skill he showed at the junior level doesn't seem to be translating.

I guess getting a project like DSP would be more than enough for Liles, but by no means should Leafs fans go crazy over the guy. I remember how we reacted after getting Colborne for Kaberle. It should be a clue when other teams give up prospects like this so easily.

Should have made it clear... I believe that Blacker+Liles for DSP+4 is fair value. Article simply says Ducks are looking for young D and Leafs are involved. DSP is project and has seen his stock drop considerably... Ducks may be looking for young D for a young F, but I would say Liles needs to be included and would be willing to retain salary to move him to help the cap. They have Sbisa and Souray out, so Blacker wouldn't provide much now, however, Liles would.

Agreed.

And yeah, would very like to have Smith-Pelly. Big fan of him. Physical Ontario boy.

Holland, Beleskey, Maroon are also players that I'd like from Anaheim.

They just had a chance to take Liles for free. Why would they give up DSP and a 4th for Jesse Blacker?

Well I would say they had a chance to get Liles at his full salary, not at a reduced rate... i.e. us retaining up to 50 % of his salary... by your reasoning the Caps were dumb for not just claiming Grabbo on waivers before his compliance buyout. The money would sweeten the pot.

No one is moving a good prospect for Leafs salary dumps!

it wouldn't surprise me if that's the route Nonis goes. not to go full Cherry, but he is really bringing in a lot of Ontario-borns to the Leafs.
