Gaunce, McCann, and Horvat. Three first round picks that aren't projected to be anything more than 2nd liners.

Don't be fooled by his numbers (or lack thereof). This is a skilled guy who was very inconsistent offensively this year. He also didn't play a lot at ES, which hurt him a bit. But overall he has the potential to be a skilled 2nd line center who also takes care of his own zone.

At least we have some freaking real prospects in the cupboard for once. Virtanen and Shinkaruk on the wings to go with them.

And Shea Weber and PK Subban were thought of as nothing more than 3 or 4 Dman. No one knows what these prospects will become, its draft day.

Could his game translate to wing?

Yes, he plays LW, but better as a centre.

I think he was disappointed to fall.

People need to let it go.

It's okay. In the previous 2 years, both Horvat and Gaunce have looked bored or disinterested in the picks, and eventually guys just gave into Horvat's maturity and Gaunce being Mr.Serious. The same will happen to Mccaan, once he is a given a chance to show the nuck fans what he's got, at prospect camp.

I think his underrated tbh, people focusing too much on his stats and label him 2nd/3rd liner. I think it was a good pick. Love his speed and shot.

Would be one hell of a shutdown 2nd line. I believe all have played wing this year at different points.

I really like this pick by you guys. There were questions about just how much offensive upside he really has. He has great offensive tools but never produced like he was expected to, it was the same case in the U18.

But I like how it's not like you took him top 10-15. You took him late in the first so it was definitely worth the risk.

Next year will be a big year for him.

Some stats guys think he had an unlucky shooting percentage down the stretch. Think he's more of an offensive guy than given credit for. And probably less of the "Bo Horvat mold" 2 way guy everyone thinks.

Given where the Canucks got him I thought it was a great pick. Sort of funny seeing all this "not another 2nd line center" stuff coming from Canuck fans

Few games i saw he missed the net alot, its a good shot but he needs to hit the net hopefully he can work on that. Watched the games to see Nurse so McCann was just a bonus

Here is McCann explaining his "It is what it is." comment. A fan on twitter asked him to clarify and this is what he said:

Quote:
"There was a lot of questions coming in left and right. Got Misunderstood with the question. I am beyond happy to be in Vancouver. The question was what happened when I dropped in the draft and I said it is what it is, I'm happy to be a Canuck and ready to play."

That's what I thought he meant when I first heard it. Seemed like he meant it in reference to where he went in the draft rather than specifically going to Vancouver. Guy isn't Steve Francis.

Wasn't a stats guy, was someone who watched him play this year.

Personally, when I saw him, he missed the net a lot — more so, than having a poor shooting percentage.

Good thing projections are always accurate hey? Players and situations are so dynamic we never know, its impossible to know. Look simply look at the lists year after year, Jamie Benn in what round? Shea Weber in the 2nd? Kesler slated for 3rd line grinder for life, wins Selke instead.. On this topic I digress.

McCann I had higher on the draft list, he fell, maybe for good reason. IMO Barbashev is who I would have liked but it seems Vancouver wanted a safe pick.
