Vancouver - Tampa Bay

This was thrown out in another thread and I thought it potentially worth discussing.
To Vancouver: Teddy Purcell (4.5M AAV signed through 15/16)

To Tampa: Kevin Bieksa (4.5M AAV signed through 15/16)
From a dollars standpoint, Purcell's deal is flat (4.5 every year) whereas Bieksa's drops off in the final year, so it'd save Vinik $2M in cash.

The obvious need that's filled for Van is a playmaking right winger to play next to Ryan Kesler. The downside for Vancouver is that the trade results in Tanev playing in the top 4 (presumably with Edler), while the bottom pairing becomes pretty average (two of Alberts, Corrado and Weber).

The obvious need that's filled for the Bolts is a rightie defenseman to play with Victor Hedman. Matt Carle moves to pairing two. The whole defense suddenly looks much more solid. The downside is obviously forward depth, but the Bolts have quite a bit of that anyway, and at cheaper cap hits - here's Drouin coming in and possibly Tyler Johnson. Gotta give those young guys some PP time. Not sure where Brett Connolly is at, but he's also in the mix there.

Make any sense?

Vancouver hangs up so fast.

Bieksa is a much better player.

Canucks do not need a playmaker. They need a sniper.

Hmm. This could be an interesting base for a deal for sure. Maybe Tampa throws in Salo and Vancouver throws in Weise and a 5th

To Vancouver: Purcell, Salo.

To Tampa: Bieksa, Weise, 2014 5th

We lack right-handed defensemen as it is, Bieksa is getting criminally underrated recently and regardless, have no one remotely ready to replace him. In short, no. Maybe this gets revisited down the road, but certainly not any time soon. If you want Bieksa, it will cost more than Purcell.

The hell does this make any sense? They have a sniper. It's Kesler. His wrister is gnarls barkley.

The issue with Kesler is distribution - he's a shoot-first guy. He needs a guy to get him the puck in a position where he has enough time to use his shot. Last couple of years he hasn't been able to get much rhythm going with all the injuries, but the other problem is that no one's giving him any space to get that wrister off.

Anyway I really don't think the value is that far off (as a Canucks fan), but if you feel a need to add to one or both sides to balance it, go for it. But it's impossible to argue that 2nd line wing hasn't been a spot everyone's been trying to fix on that team for like 2 years now.

Disagree. Apart from Hank Sedin and maybe Jordan Schroeder the Canucks don't really have a gifted passer. Teddy Purcell would fill that hole perfectly. That said, I'm not sure if a 1 for 1 trade involving Juice and Purcell makes us a better team. Juice is arguably our only defender with a "mean streak". I'd have to decline from the Canucks point of view, although the raw value is probably there.

I think it's an offseason requirement that this proposal comes up once a week.

As for the proposed trade, I'm not sure Van has the depth at D to withstand the loss of Bieksas caliber, nor do they have a need for a player like Purcell.

I disagree. From a Canucks POV if Corrado can prove himself at the NHL level I'd do it. This is moot discussion though because Bieksa has a NTC and won't waive it.

Would be considered, but still I don't think Vancouver does it.

This has been proposed a million times before, and I still wouldn't do it.

Bieksa is our best right handed d-man, and trading him for a forward makes our defensive depth pretty bad.

Canucks already signed Brad Richardson for the 3C/4C role, and have Schroeder likely playing 3C, so Pyatt is redundant IMO.

Yesyesyes.

IMO Salo is better than Bieksa, just injury prone and on the verge of retirement. He also fits with Edler while Juice does not. A replacement could be found in UFA at years end. The pick should probably be a 3rd to pay the cost of renting Salo(Weise + 3rd + leftover value from Bieksa). I like Weise but love Purcell. I will go rip up Bieksa's NTC.

Yes he is. I'm not sure how you could argue that. I haven't seen Salo since he left to Tampa Bay, but he was always thought of as the better defender between the two when they played for the same team. Occasionally Bieksa would have his moments, but Salo was more reliable, better defensively, and more of a PP threat.
