Getting pissed off when in a slump, at least he has emotions, also Horcoff wouldn't do that.

Fires up the team or at least should.

What a piss poor comparison.

Is that all the Gagner haters can resort to? Bad GIFs, stupid nicknames and piss poor comparisons?

It's so painfully obvious you know only the Oilers could mess it up.
exactly. we've gone almost 2 decades putting the C on a soldier that is a crowd favourite because he blocks shots and recieves punches. Can we not, just this once, put the C on the best, most important player on the team? we finally have a franchise player that not only is able to impose his will on the ice, but has the emotion and attitude to lead.

just give Hall the C and get on with it. only KLowe could screw this up. if they don't want to give it to him now, put it on Ference for a couple years then give it Hall.

well, you are probably right about that. I admit I have never been so bored with sports on TV and craving something of substance to discuss about hockey than I have been this last month.

this has been the most boring month for sports that i can remember

training camp can't start quick enough

If, after all this, Gagner isn't named captain (and I don't think he should be btw) whoever started this rumor sure as heck wasn't doing him any favours.

Yes it is Tad. You've been here long enough to know that by now.

What is it (besides your deep and abiding dislike for Kevin Lowe) that makes you think he has anything to do with this decision?

is he in on the captaincy decision? probably not. one would think that the president of hockey ops has bigger fish to fry. but his reputation as a micro-manager is deserved. (Why did Lowe go to Toronto to interview Eakins? His newly hired manager couldn't go alone? he needs to be there? ever heard of a blackberry, Kevin)

He is too hands-on for a president of hockey ops and now he gets accused as being the fault of everything. is this unfair now? am I too quick to point the finger at Lowe? probably, but he made his bed.

let me ask you this: Does anyone doubt he had a hand in making Horcoff the captain? His 5.5 million dollar 3rd line centre needed to be presented as important, with intangibles. this organization makes decisions with crowd control in mind as much as hockey. these guys have knowingly made decisions that are not necessarily the best for the on-ice product.

KLowe deserves every shred scrutiny directed at him

Gagner as captain, pfff, don't be silly now, everyone that has played hockey knows that the C goes to the coach's son by default.

Can't wait to get Will Acton'd!

Sam Tebow for Edmonton Mayor and Team Captain. he will skirt around issues like he skirts around dirty areas. then will sweep in like a vulture for the heroic moment. Taylor Hall isnt ready for that type of pressure.

the "dressing room" argument for a captain is so hilarious.

just hire Tony Robbins to be the captain-of-the-locker-room with Katz's sick drug-bucks.
he can run the boom box and pick up coffee too.

100% true... but with the way he's treated around here, for how "good" his game is, he pretty much should be nick named "the coach's son".

I would assume that the players will have some type of vote for "captain tragic". Then Eakins will let them and the media know who it is.

But I could be way wrong.

except you're wrong.

Gagner is one of the few Oilers who never takes a night off.
and considering what he's had to deal with bad management and not much help from the team in developing as a player, I think he's shown great mental fortitude.

he keeps getting better and while there are still holes in his game, he's one of the few Oilers I always respect his effort in every single night.

Gagner is a true professional. and while I don't think he will be named captain, he wouldn't be a bad choice.

NO but we could sign him and if he gets his ass kicked one time then apparently he is fully qualified to be captain according to SS fanboys

Did you even watch the stretch run last season. It looked as though Sammy knew he had his big pay day in the bag. He was one of the worst Oiler forwards most nights in the last 15 games.

So were the assistant coaches. Yet somehow Lowe's buddies are still employed.

I have to defend gagner. so many people are trying to make him sound like he isn't even qualified to be a 4th line benchwarmer playing two minutes a night.

ok so maybe he doesn't have the same compete level Smyth had in his prime, but he has a heck of a lot more "try" than the majority of the oilers in the last 5 years.
