Roussel is in the final year of his ELC and looking at a very uphill battle to break camp with the Admirals this season. Likely destined for Cincinnati in the ECHL again, Roussel should see time with the Ads, but in an injury/recall replacement role and not a full-time position.
Watching him at camp this summer, I thought he was very good rushing the puck up ice, but rememberer asking myself why he was so far up ice on multiple occasions and seemingly forgoing his role defensively. Better decision making at both ends of the rink and a lot of consistency are going to be needed from Roussel this year to put him in line for a second contract.
Could easily see Roussel not signed next summer to open up a contract for a new prospect under the 50 contract max. Pivotal season for him to be sure, but overall has been disappointing the last couple seasons since turning pro.
Being a right handed d-man not named Weber/Klein/Jones/Ellis in the Predator's prospect pool isn't a good thing. His chances of sticking with the club are slim to none as he has not lived up to exspectations at all. The fact we are so strong up the right side now hurts him even more.
