TB puts G Riku Helenius on ($125) unconditional waivers presumably for purposes of mutual contract termination.

Actually, he wasn't even called up to the AHL...

His ECHL save percentage is .797 - I wouldn't have called him up either.

And this guy was a first round pick? It must have seemed like a good idea at the time.

Never got the hype with Helenius. He had a good U-18's in his draft year, but thats pretty much it. Did not understand why he was picked in the 1st round, so I'm not surprised he busted. I'm guessing this is the last we'll see of him in NA when he can't even get an AHL job.

Helenius was pretty darn good early in his career. He had a .915 PCT and 2.42 AVG in 42 games in the WHL. He had a .918 PCT in the AHL as a 20-year-old. And he dominated the Finnish Elite League in 2011-12 with a .936 PCT and a 1.64 GAA which is why Tampa brought him back. He's been mostly awful since returning to North America, though. Personally, I was shocked that Tampa didn't cut ties with him last summer.

There's no doubt he can be good, He was a first round pick afterall even though in hindsight, he shouldn't have been. It just seems to me like he's wildly inconsistent. He was absolutely stellar in Finland in 11/12, but the year before when he was in Sweden, he couldn't even beat Pontus Sjogren who had an 89.9sv% for the starter job in the SHL. Sjogren is a nobody who's now a starter in Allsvenskan. A good one at that, but still. The skill is there and he can be good, you just never know what you're going to get. His career stats are really strange.

Reminds me a lot of Marek Schwarz. Shows a lot of promise early, then falls off the face if the earth because they can't put it together mentally.

How does that deal effect us picking up Kostka? Unless we move a D in the deal.

You answered you're own question with that last bit. MSL + D. The question becomes who, could very well be Aulie.

This is strictly a guess though. No basis, just seems fishy

Tampa wouldn't be the team adding.

It will be interesting to see if TBL sends Kostka back through waivers to send him to Syracuse.

It doesn't sound like it, Tampa coach Jon Cooper was praising Kostka's "brain" today as the reason they picked him up.

Good thing the Hawks burned through cap space so that they could have Kostka on the roster for sixty games to play 120 minutes.

per Renaud Lavoie, San Jose puts Bracken Kearns on waivers. I figured this was coming what with San Jose having guys like Raffi Torres close/ready to return.

It's not a surprise Helenius was a first round pick when you have a draft wizard like Feaster as a GM.

Feaster must be as good as Burke.

No surprise. Guy is a goon. Always looking for a fight, usually in a stupid time of the game.

That's a coaching issue. If the guy is a goon and you send him out and he plays like a goon, then that's your own fault.
