I think you can ask this Eric Francis guy and he would hook you with all you need to know.

Canada (where most of the rabble rousing hockey community generates stories from) notoriously gets ******** when foreign players "disrespect" the game.

When Bobby Clark breaks Kharlamov's leg thats good hard play. When Alexander Semin lays a clean hit on Dan Boyle with the game out of reach (remember Boyle went back at him with a vicious slew foot that he SHOULD have been suspended for) then he is a *******.
Ding, ding, ding, another winner. Man you are on your game today Bob.

Nobody is more xenophobic about anything than Canadians are about hockey. If Boyle had done the same thing to Semin as Semin had done to him it would have been one of the most celebrated incidents in Canadian hockey history.

I still remember Milbury outrage over the hit and praising Boyle for slew footing him.

Any whining about "running up the score" and so on has always annoyed me. If you don't want the score run up on you, don't let them keep scoring. That's all there is to the issue.

7-16-1 when they don't score a PPG under Oates including eight straight losses. One trick ponies.

Faulty roster built by a faulty architect. Core trade still needed 5 years later. I still think they're just as likely to turn it around...still so early. It's a shame that Oates could take the fall. How many coaches have to take the fall for the roster they're given and the culture that has been built before they arrived?

Based on my hockey-reference crunching……

Last year regular season, teams scoring 0 on the power play went 306-379-88 for .906 points per game.

Caps were 7-9-1 in the regular season for .882 ppg, which was 17th in the league.

Also noteworthy, those 17 games were tied with 3 other teams for the fewest games held scoreless on the PP.
This is literally the only ****ing fanbase in all of sports that *****es about special teams being good.

That's shockingly bad. Oates would have a been a great assistant coach for this team--get Ovie straightened out and run the PP--but as a head coach, he's flailing.

The ignore list deprived you of a shockingly information-bearing post (copy and pasted though).

From SimplySensational's quote probably of a comment on the post:

That pretty much destroys the stat. (Of course it doesn't change the fact that they suck at even strength.)

Not the eight straight losses aspect, though. Pretty concerning trend there.

An eight-game long one, yeah. I agree with you, but an eight-game streak of anything doesn't mean much.

7-9-1 is not so bad, just slightly worse than league average.
7-16-1 is ****ing abysmal. Granted, multiple of those were against the same team (the Rangers) and in the playoffs, so it's not an even sample. But the overall record is pretty awful.

those repeated chokes and blown playoff leads and upsets have a cumulative effect. with mike green you can see it the most obvious but it effects ovechkin and backstrom too. it is added weight on all these players that have enough games in a Washington sweater to feel the added pressure.

Hey guys, NYR fan coming in peace.

Why have you guys soured so considerably on Brouwer? Some Caps fans on the trade boards literally can't wait to get rid of the guy. I would LOVE him on my team. He's exactly the kind of winner a team like mine needs.

Why is he under such criticism this year?

he is not having a good season. that's the main thing. his bad season follows a poor playoffs. as a ranger fan you would know that had any caps player stepped up with a little offense, that includes brouwer as the caps 2nd leading goal scorer, the caps advance rather than lose in the first round.

further. he is a vocal leader. combine having a bad playoffs after a great season with a bad season and as an alternate captain on a team with a Russian captain and a lot of face time in the media....yea.

in ny he would be burned at the stake.

He can't score at even strength. Also, as a Rangers fan, recall his complete disappearance each spring.

If you need a powerplay specialist, he's a good fit, but overpaid. If you need an all situation top 6 winger, look elsewhere.

In what way is he a "winner?" Because he won a Cup with Chicago as a 4th liner?

On most good teams he's a 3rd liner who can play special teams. He shouldn't be the primary 2RW unless he finds particularly special chemistry with other 2nd liners. He's a complimentary piece who's production comes largely as a result of the players around him. Last year he produced well as a result of spending time with Ribeiro and Backstrom (and a red hot powerplay), yet was still a possession black hole and not a difference maker defensively. Without time with those elite playmaking centers this year, his production has tanked (and Ward is just as productive on the powerplay) and his possession stats have remained abysmal. Even his physical play, while he racks up the hits "stat," doesn't make a large impact on the game.

He's struggling and the new target of fan angst this year. Laich too....

It's all "what have you done for me lately" around here.
