RFK would be fabulous, but it isn't close to being up to the challenge to host it. DC let it rot from the inside out. The Military Bowl left it for Navy/Marine Corp Stadium in Annapolis.
RFK is a **** hole.

I'd rather Fairfax Ice Arena than RFK.

It would be nice to host the Winter Classic, but I don't care nearly as much as I did before the league announced that there will be like 100 outdoor games every year.

This is such stupid logic.

Considering I'm moving back from San Diego to DC/NoVa in the next 7 months, I will be pumped if the Caps are hosting the Winter Classic.

Little to no chance it's FedEx IMO, it will have to be a venue that is metro accessible, ie: Nat's, RFK. As for playing on the mall, would be epic but the cost / benefit ratio wouldn't support building a stadium big enough to yield a substantial profit.

Agree 100%, I went to Heinz .... it was incredible and I just don't foresee the experience / uniqueness being replicated.

Go see one outdoor game. Cool one time only IMO. Likely a weather debacle here in DC.

I just don't think the OWNER is the one who should (or will) announce outdoor games. That's why I think the announcement could be something else.

Yeah. If they billed it as an announcement from Bettman (he sometimes attends) I might believe it more. I figure this is something Caps internal. Perhaps MSE related, though I really can't think of anything they might do that would be worth teasing.

As speculated by others I think it has to be a jersey retirement of bondra and or kolzig

I believe someone in the media suggested a MSE tv network, could see that as well.

Only issue with that is that CSN has a deal with the caps for 5 more years and wizards for 10 so that doesn't make a ton of sense unless they plan on being mystics coverage 24/7

Sounds like an investment with more potential than AOL and Groupon.

they are not trying laich either.
Johansson hasn't been used at center in years. Is he the same player now that he was then?

Laich is a known quantity as a player.

well..we all see things differently. clearly, you see better than I do. iirc oates was quoted as saying Johansson is a center but he sees him with ovechkin and backstrom for now. that tells me that oates doesn't feel the need to "experiment" or "give him a try" out of position.

You don't remember correctly. He said he sees Johansson as a winger but (pretty halfheartedly, I thought) acknowledged his background at center made it possible for him to play there too.

I have no idea where you're going with this. All I did was ask you a question.

I don't think it's a good idea to assume that a young player whose game is developing is still a fit at a position he hasn't played consistently in multiple seasons. Maybe he sees something in practice to indicate that, but I would think if that were the case, they wouldn't have signed Grabovski.

my take is that he is a better and more experienced player now than when younger. his understanding to the game better. so, I would think he a better center now than then. but that's just me.

I also think the team feels like Johansson has real chemistry with both 19 and 8 and want to keep that going. meaning that he is of more value as a 1LW than as a potential 2c.

meanwhile, though, signing a ufa center to a one year contract doesn't say much to me about the long term positioning of Johansson.

I don't give a rats ass if they were SS's best line in the league. I don't see MJ as good fit and I am not seeing chemistry. Until MJ can consistently hit Ovi with passes, heck hit anyone with his drop passes, I question what Oates sees. They want to develop him as a scoring line LW - I understand that.

I see square peg round hole. Sure he can eek out his 40+ points but think most scoring line NHL wingers could as well. I think he could do that playing center, as well.

They sucked in the playoffs. That's all one needs to have seen. Sure Nick was slowed. But MJ is not the force I want to stand alongside Ovi and Nick. Nick and Ovi need a stronger board guy.

I think that had more to do with the Russian fake center than the Swedish fake center.

Would the regular season start already so we can stop trying to read between the lines of every move made or not made?

I think the reason that you don't like Johansson is more his skill set than anything. Johansson's speed opens up ice for ovechkin and backstrom that they've never had before. I wins the race for dump in's cleanly more often than any player ovechkin has played with previous.

no, he's not the board fighter than knuble was but he wins races to loose pucks more than even clark did at his best.

oh...and you think that with a full season on the 1st line his best is eaking out 40 points?
