give Wellwood another season in the AHL with the franchise moving to Toronto he'll be a good sell, he can attract a lot of fans with his dazling moves, stickhandling ability.
According to tmlfans.ca, Jeff Marek on Leafs Lunch said it was a done deal.
It's either heaven or hell. He looks like a steal or he looks lost from being out so long. In an interview awhile back Allison said the issues he had are pretty much gone & he has been cleared to play.

Not sure other then a verbal commitment about this done deal stuff though .. No CBA so no contracts or offers can be given to agents ..
This might dating back to last UFA before the lockout that started the Allison talk and so his agent knows the Leafs are perhaps interested as is Allison ..
However a completed deal is technically impossible at this point, and wouldn't be valid anyways until filed with the league and approved.. Fergy can't offer any amount until he knows how much cap room and buyout rules and basicallly what the CBA will say in lots of area's..
Allison's interest in TO and giving them first crack is another thing that is easy to believe ..
BOSTON GLOBE: Kevin Paul Dupont reported this past Sunday that former Bruins and LA Kings center Jason Allison has made a complete recovery from the whiplash that sideline him since January 2003. Released by the Kings last summer, Allison claims to have spoken with some 15 clubs about signing to play the 2004-05 season prior to the lockout. Toronto and Carolina expressed the most interest.

ALLISON TALKING TO THE LEAFS?
THE ICE BLOCK: reports commentator Bill Watters told Leafs Lunch on 640 Mojo Radio that former LA Kings forward Jason Allison has supposedly held talks with the Toronto Maple Leafs. Allison is now an unrestricted free agent whose value has been limited due to his being sidelined for some time with a whiplash injury.
So this rumour might be coming from these previous ones ..

I read the teams can't talk to players until the CBA is signed.

Thats what I thought as well ..
Usually in Union bargaining negotiations management is not allowed to approach union voting members during a work stoppage.

Jason Allison Talking With the Leafs
Just because there’s a lockout going on doesn’t mean we have to drop the player movement rumors completely, does it?
Jason Allison is an unrestricted free agent and is looking to possibly join the Toronto Maple Leafs whenever the NHL starts playing again (with it’s NHLPA members). Bill Watters on Leafs Lunch on 640 Toronto is reporting there have even been talks between the Leafs and Allison recently.
Allison, who grew up in the Toronto area, hasn’t played since 2002-03 when he had 22 points in 26 games for the Los Angeles Kings. His best season was with the Boston Bruins in 2000-01 when he finished 4th in scoring with 95 points. It was also the last time he’s played a full season.
Bill Waters is the one being quoted so he should know these things you would things ..
And Watters knows some stuff, didn't he call the Bondra to Ottawa trade weeks before it happened?
Don't get me wrong I think Allison to TO is a strong possibility .. Nice fit for both .. Allison in an Ontario boy that wants to be here and with his injury status comes at a bargain price in a new CBA world ..
I am just doubting the deal is DONE .. because that part goes against bargaining rules .. However as the other rumours suggest that Allison and Fergy have be in talks before so Allison will know what Leafs are prepared to offer him, and if that is acceptable to Allison then a DEAL may be immenent..
However we do not know the full CBA yet and that may be the only thing that prevents it, and of course until it is voted in NO Contracts can be official.
Mike Milbury was on the radio today suggesting 2004-05 contracts will be honoured .. That changes everything IMO .. should it be a fact ..
How can they honour existing contracts without grandfathering?
Would seem to indicate we know very little about the upcoming CBA.
Thats true
24% rollbacks, Dispersal Draft , Buyouts, Restructuring, Waivers, Loopholes , Cap end-arounds all still unknown at this time ..

As the two sides get closer, snippets of the deal are beginning to emerge. It looks as though the upper limit of the salary cap will be between $36 million and $38 million (all figures U.S.) including benefits. As for unrestricted free agency, it will remain status quo for the first year of the deal, meaning any player who has reached his 31st birthday by July 1 will qualify as a Group III free agent.
Then it gets interesting. According to a number of sources, free agency will go down one year with each passing year, meaning it will kick in at 30 next summer, 29 in 2007 and 28 in 2008 and that is where it will stay for the duration of what's expected to be a six-year deal.
