Stars sign Branden Troock to ELC

Quote:
Dallas Stars General Manager Jim Nill announced today that forward Branden Troock has been signed to a three-year, entry-level contract. Per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Troock, 20, just concluded his fourth season with the Seattle Thunderbirds in the Western Hockey League (WHL), where he ranked third on the team during the regular season with 58 points (24-34=58) in 58 games with the club. He was also tied for the team lead with four goals in nine games during the WHL playoffs this year and was tied for second among all Thunderbirds with seven postseason points (4-3=7). In total, the 6-foot-3, 195-pound forward posted 101 regular season points (45-56=101) in 144 career games with Seattle.

I hope this guy's a little bit of a late bloomer, with all his injuries he may end up developing a little more in Texas than most guys.

How bout Brendin? Haha man my mom picked a weird spelling for my name. Awful.

Anyway, had solid stats in the CHL. Hopefully he can develop well.

Anyone know if they are gonna sign G.Smith, C. Ully, D. Sinitsyn, and M. Winther?

Smith and Ully are virtual locks to be signed. Sinitsyn we'll see and its up in the air for Winther.

I would hazard a guess and say all four get signed.

Smith and Sinitsyn will definitely be signed. Sinitsyn will most likely play his overage season in Regina, the Pats have already stated that they would love to have him back next year, not sure if anyone from the Stars Org. has said anything about the subject though. Ully doesn't need to be signed yet so he most likely won't get a contract this year, but he will most certainly have one in the future.

Winther is a tricky one, personally I thought they would sign either Troock or Winther, but not both. Troock is a better player when healthy, but that's the problem, he can't seem too stay healthy. But, this season Winther has been the more injury prone of the two, along with his lackluster play since he was drafted maybe Nill decided to let him go. I could see him getting a contract with the Texas Stars and trying to earn a NHL contract rather than just giving him one, but as BigG has mentioned before, Dennis Holland was very high on the guy so it could really go either way at this point.

The first 3 are dead set locks. Winther is a big maybe. If they shed a dead prospect or two, trade one, or a scout like Holland is completely gung-ho I could see it but I imagine they'd try to bring him in on an ATO or AHL only contract. He may not have many options with other teams so a minor deal could be his only chance.

I assume Lindell slides one more year because he's a Euro right?

No on Lindell. The rule in 2012 was still 2 years even for Europeans. 2013 was the first year under the new rule giving teams Euro rights for 4 years.

I think they sign Lindell, but if they don't he goes back in the draft.

If the guy can stay healthy he could be a good one. Glad we signed him. Put me on the sign Lindell bandwagon. Guy was awesome at the WJC. Most consistent defencemen for Finland at the tournament.

Cool, thanks. I think Winther should deff get a contract with the Texas Stars. The dude has a lot of speed and some good hands.

Mentioned it in the Texas Stars thread. Troock apparently already with Texas and in today's game notes.
