It's fine how you have it. The top three teams from each division go. I wouldn't leave out Vancouver though dude.

I'd be happy if the Wild finish 3rd in the Central.

The way I see it, Hawks and Blues are definite 1-2, Colorado and Nashville are definite 6-7. So it'll be between Wild, Stars and Jets for the 3rd spot, and I like our chances there.

1. St. Louis
2. Chicago
3. Dallas
4. Minnesota
5. Colorado
6. Winnipeg
7. Nashville

I think the biggest rival in terms of making the playoffs for the Wild will be Dallas. They've got a young and up´n´coming team also there. Winnipeg I think will have problems in the West, they're defense isn't really up to par and the offense doesn't make up for it. It's ironic that both depend a lot on if their second line centers play out or not. Dallas has better goaltending, while Minnesota has a better defense.

Pacific

1. Los Angeles
2. Anaheim
3. San Jose
4. Vancouver
5. Phoenix
6. Edmonton
7. Calgary

LA is still top dog, Anaheim shows that the youth movement is in full swing while Perry and Getzlaf play their hearts out for the Olympic team. Fowler has a big season. Phoenix squeezes in as the final wild card, since both St. Louis and Chicago abuse their own conference so badly.

Metropolitan

1. Pittsburgh
2. Islanders
3. Carolina
4. Rangers
5. Philadelphia
6. Columbus
7. Washington
8. New Jersey

Carolina and Islanders show they're for real, Semin and Tavares have career years. Pittsburgh rides Malkin. Washington has good offense, but bad defense. Holtby is average in goal.

Atlantic

1. Boston
2. Detroit
3. Buffalo
4. Tampa Bay
5. Ottawa
6. Toronto
7. Montreal
8. Florida

Boston barely beats Detroit, who smashes through the East. Especially youth like Tatar, Järnkrok and possibly Pulkkinen shine through. Z is also strong, Datsyuk has a down year. Buffalo starts strong but fades towards the end. Tampa Bay finally manages to play a bit of defense, but still rides their offense to victory. MSL gets injured and doesn't regain his touch. Toronto can only survive with good team defense, team doesn't have enough skill otherwise to survive.

I would. Even though I hate them I knew they would make the playoffs the last several years because of our poor division and predicted as such.

This year, new, legit division with great teams. Canucks are a team with no 3rd line center, 4th liner and lumbering heavy weight Kassian starting the year out with the Sedin sisters, Kesler and Booth can't stay on the same ice. Luon8o's head is in every which way, and I love Torts but he's going to drive that team into the ground.

They are missing the playoffs this year, my bold (though not really) prediction of the year. Book it, as long as Smith and Tippett return to form which I think they will in Phoenix.

I think it would be a lot more difficult than most here seem to think for 5 teams from one division to make the playoffs. JMO.

Update: I may have overestimated WPG. They have some real raw talent, but watching their preseason game vs. the Sens, I see just no chemistry at all. They'll be an interesting wild card for sure though.

Wow, it's going to be a heck of a battle to make the playoffs out East. Really wish there were play-in games for the last two spots. Single or best of three would be awesome and then best of five for the first round.

One thing I don't get is let's say 5 teams from one division make the playoffs. Don't the top 4 teams in each division play each other?

So Chicago vs. Dallas, St. Louis vs. Minnesota. But who does the 5th team face should they happen to make the playoffs?

Don't understand the playoff format yet.

Only the top 3 are guaranteed a spot. The last 2 playoff spots are Wil card teams that can come from either division.

1 vs Wildcard
2 vs 3

1 vs Wildcard
2 vs 3

The #1 between the two divisions that has more points plays the Wild card team with the least points. The Wild card team will be locked in to that division's playoff bracket even if they win the first round, they play the winner of the 2 vs 3 game of that same bracket.

THAT'S IT. Not very complex at all.

So let's say Chicago vs. Vancouver
St. Louis vs. Minnesota

Vanny wins and we do so we would play Vancouver for the right to go to the WCF correct?

Minnesota would host Vancouver for the division playoff title and move on to play for the WCF... yes.

Second last in the league? Meh, 1st overall pick or bust. Or maybe we can pull a Colorado.

I read that article. They used the VUKOTA projection which means they are projecting a player's likely future based on the scoring of historically comparable players. I don't know it well, but it sounds like it would not be a reliable tool when trying to project a team like the Wild because of the youngsters in the lineup.

And the simple fact that they don't recognize and account for such a flaw...publish it anyway...and make people pay for it is a complete joke.

I don't see how anyone can take anything ESPN does seriously anymore. I used to be a religious watcher of sportscenter for years...I can't even remember the last time I turned it on now.

It's the same ***** every 30min. It's annoying. It's not even like it's worthwhile stories.
