I got the impression of when we drafted him that he is a great shutdown dman but needed work on his offence.

I have been questioning Team Canada selections the last couple years. It always seems some player have a inside track. Last year out defense was absolutely terrible hopefully it is not the same this year. Nurse not being on the roster seems like a bad idea to me.

Well that's just dumb. They should have had a 35 person camp.

Are there any other prospects that can make their respective national teams for WJC I can only think of Slepyshev, Yakimov, Zharkov that have a chance at Russia. Anyone else?

Why? It's ridiculous bringing an extra 10 kids when you know who your cuts are going to be when you could be building your team and practicing. Also flying these kids across the country just to crush their dreams is a pretty ****** move when your just paying lip service by inviting them.

You don't know you're going to cut them. I can't see how scouts can just predetermine a set of players without testing some alternative. How does Bigras get a nod over Nurse?? Why only two goalies? No Jarry? Where's the net presence?

Wow. I'm surprised for sure.

This makes watching the WJC a little less interesting.

They have a team of scouts who's job is to watch these players, they've watched them play for club teams, they've watched them play for Canada, they know what they're getting. Lets face it, most of the players who make the team are locks going into camp. What little you gain by having a few guys battle it out for depth spots is minimal compared to actually having a productive week where these kids can learn how to play with each other.

Bigras damn near made the Avalanche this year, and he's extremely reliable. Nurse would likely have more impact on the game both negatively and positively.

Net presence? Gautier and Mantha are monsters, I'm sure Sutter can tell them where to stand.

Are these the same brilliant scouts that left RNH and Seguin off of their respective WJC teams in their draft season?

Some might be the same, but they replaced the entire Hockey Operations department for this sort of thing including the head scout, director of hockey op's, goaltending coach/scout, etc.

Is Prendergast gone? If so that alone gives these scouts more credibility.

This, most definitely throws a wrench into the Oiler's developmental pathway plan. The WJCs are a huge step, and one that Nurse deserved.

RNH missed the WJC's as did Seguin and Duchene IIRC. Good players will take this as more motivation to prove the doubters wrong.

Yeah I think you folks are putting far too much stock into the WJC's. The only wrench this throws into it is that I won't have much reason to watch anymore. Last year was nice as we had Yakupov and RNH. But as far as development goes, this amounts to pretty much nothing.

Nurse with a delay of game penalty now. Not making a very good case for WJC

Just showed Lowe and Stu in the stands.
Guess this comment from the Super Series OHL game wasn't so dumb after all.

We'll have Yakimov and Slepyshev for the Russians. I think one scout even said Yakimov might be Russia's #1 centre.

well, at least I have a reason to watch the WJC.
Looking forward to seeing Yakimov dominate physically.

Zharkov has a chance too according to the Russian posters on the main boards.

I am pretty sure he and Slepyshev were both on the WJC last year. Anyone have any clue as to when Russia will release their camp roster?

Does Moroz have an OA year after this one or does he go straight to the AHL.

Wouldn't mind seeing him play an OA year, I think it may depend on how he finishes the season and how the Oil Kings are looking for next year.

The reason I think he could use an extra year is that his scoring is pretty inconsistent. Before last night he had 5G and 4A in the last 5 games, this is after going 8 games with only 1 assist. It's still early in the season and he may sort that out.
