I would rather pay Tucker that than Clarkson. Say what you will about Darcy but he was entertaining as hell.

This thread is about bad contracts. I said nice things about tucker. A bunch of 20 goal seasons and 500 points. I hated the late take out of peca and when he went after bates who wasn't a fighter but all in all he was a decent NHL bottom 6 forward for a long time.

Then maybe other fans should do the same, as in stop bashing him at every given opportunity? He hasn't played a game for the Leafs so it's not fair for either side to bash him or praise him, no?

But the question in this thread is who has the worst contract this summer, isn't it?

Your comment could apply to any name mentioned...

Clarkson, Bozak, Gunnerson, Fraser, Ranger, Orr, McLaren, Brennan, Colbourne, Bernier, whatever Kadri signs for, whatever Franson signs for, whatever Raymond signs for if we do sign him, throw in Bolland too even though it was a trade, it's still awful

am I doing it right?

I bet if Carlson was at 4.25 instead of 5.25 everyone would be saying how good of a deal it is and it's not a bad term. IMO Its not awful we're talking like 1 million to much per year.

Rumor was Ottawa offered around 4ish IIRC. Not that it mattered either way.

I think Philly offered the worst contest to streit

If it was 4.25 he would still be in New Jersey and we would be listening to Ranger and Flyer fans tell us how horrible of a deal it was.

Fair point, but for the record I'm not bashing him. I actually love the guy...for what he is.

1 year at 825k.....and a 6th (5th if more then 40 games played) Dan Carcillo is the worst contract of the year. Yeah sure you can bury 100% of his contract in the minors, it's only one year.... Some things don't wash off no matter how hard you try, and I'm afraid this is one of them.

Clarkson. And the GM of my team almost made it even worse!

Clarkson is actually a good player, the money is bad though but the terms are nightmarish.

Crawford, easily. Clarkson isn't far off, however.

He was fantastic in the playoffs, no doubt, but we've seldom seen goaltenders display consistency in terms of elite performances year-to-year. Lundqvist is really the only guy that springs to mind that has been consistently good for the last 6 years. This was the only year Crawford played at an elite level and now he's locked up 9 months early on a 6 year deal that will make him the 7th highest paid goalie in the league. I can honestly see Chicago regretting this contract before he even plays a single game on it.

I agree that $2M is selling Crawford short. 4 years x $4.5M would've been more appropriate, IMO.

I think it's Clowe, and I like Clowe, but that's an AWFUL contract

I'm often shocked by fans believe in this altruistic nonsense that a player just wanted to go home or his heart was in a certain city.

How many in their prime UFA's can you name that took less money to "go home". It's pure marketing genius by the players and their agents and the fans eat it up like it were candy.

Clarkson wanted to play in front of Toronto so badly he used 3 or 4 teams to drive up the price to absurd levels...think about it.

Fans have this amazing ability to block out all facts and go with the story line that fits their narrative. It's almost scary how this happens.

If Toronto was only offering 4.25 and Montreal was offering 5.25 you can bet your bottom dollar Clarkson would be studying French with Rosetta Stone today.

It's a face off between Clarkson and Clowe. In one corner, Clowe, who's one hit away from having his brain turned to jelly and never playing again. In the other, Clarkson's contract lasts until he's close to 40 and his cap hit is a joke. Added bonus: indirectly has caused all the difficulty with signing Kadri and Franson, two players who are both younger and better than him. What fun.

But in all seriousness, Clarkson.

Clowe had an injury plagued year, was probably playing hurt a good portion of this season, missed a bunch of games and probably had the worst year of his career.....and still scored only 4 fewer points than Clarkson while having more hits and PIM than Clarkson.

The biggest difference though is New Jersey is not looking for Clowe's top career production to justify his contact, Toronto almost has to have Clarkson's career years to make his contract semi palatable. Clowe was on pace for 39 points in an 82 game schedule in an injury plagued season, Clarkson 41 this season. Essentially, NJ is banking that Clowe is healthy and Toronto is banking that Clarkson will produce at career high levels for at least a few years.

I'm not sure which is worse?

But I'm pretty positive Clowe will bring more production dollar for dollar than Clarkson can, even if injured as we saw this season.
