No. It would be ignored because Homer has no positives, ever.

Lol. But seriously. Does Jarmo get a ton of ****? Does acquiring Bobrovsky soften the blow? I don't think it should, considering Mason is still very young (especially young for an NHL goaltender, I'd argue) and maybe could've been used as a piece in a bigger trade/used as a piece in a trade that wasn't for the trashfire that is Michael Leighton.

They're the same age and Bob has won a Vezina, so Columbus won't care.

It will be a shrewd move by Holmgren if Mason can continue to play at the level he has in his first dozen starts as a Flyer.

I was more thinking about how GMs are viewed. Is Holmgren still an idiot? Does it absolve the Bobrovsky trade? What if he outperforms Bob? Just trying to create conversation lol.

This year will be a lot more telling of what Bobrovsky may be. A 38 game sprint where he had some months of crazy dominance can't be used as a gauge. Columbus will probably play him 60-65 times, maybe more this year. Lots and lots and lots of looks.

That is really the only question mark with him... I mean, everyone here knew how good his skill-set was, you cannot teach the athleticism and determination Bob has, and his positioning has got better every year.

Just if he can keep the performances up while playing 60+ games.

I see no reason why he can't though, I mean, last year he was so consistently good, while playing a lot of games (I know only 38, but he was playing most of the back to backs and some weeks 4 games in 7 days, 5 weeks in the season with 4 games) he probably had 3-4 bad games in 38 if Columbus fans are to be believed.

But maybe that (60+), the shortened offseason, the Olympics all add up towards the end of the year. If he does not break down this year of all years... I doubt he will!

But then again in the 13 (and a bit) games Mason has played for us he has not had 1 bad game!

Not really.

In Jan he had a GAA of 2.97 & SV % of .907
In Feb he had a GAA of 2.86 & SV % of .892

He destroyed it in Mar & Apr. I think Bob is a really good goalie and I wanted them to keep him. But again, he had a killer run of 25 games. Its still really early.

Columbus had good reason to trade Mason. He struggled for many seasons and they had a goalie who was much better than him

He also had a good number of starts in the KHL last year

No, for a draft pick and cap relief. We made them take the Leighton contract.

Only thing I'd like to see him do is clean up is his rebounds. Other than that there's nothing to complain about. So far so good. It also feels good to see him outperforming Bob.

Plus it sounds like there is no more drama in the locker room and that is always a good thing.

Here's the question, when do you feel safe enough for holmgren to try to lock him up for a few years? Risks on both sides, too early, you can save $, but he may not be the real deal, too late, you can secure a better idea if this is a fluke or not, but he could cost more.

Offseason, he's still an RFA. No need to lock him up right away.

they didnt make the trade for leighton. They made it for the 3rd round pick. Leighton was just a throw in since we needed a contract slot for mason.

don't think that's right

this is his 6th season....he would need 7 for become a UFA since he's 26 next year

Capgeek has him a RFA and they are pretty accurate.

Yeah I know, I'm not saying they moved Mason to acquire Leighton. But I would've thought they could've gotten more than just a 3rd from any other team that needed a goalie.
