Wild aren't going to give up the required assets to trade for him since they already gave up a ton trading for Pominville last season.
IF the Wild go after him it's going to be during free agency (assuming he actually makes it to free agency, whether that means he doesn't re-sign with the Sabres or gets traded to a team and doesn't re-sign with them).
Vanek told WGR (flagship station of the Sabres) that he has not asked to be traded and that while he isn't willing to sign an extension now, he's open to a wait-and-see approach.
Doesn't contradict him saying he would prefer to be traded to the Wild if he was indeed traded, but I think he's not going to make any decision on his future until at least halfway through the season--whether that is request a trade (he does NOT have a NTC, so he doesn't really have say about that), sign an extension, or look towards free agency.
Difference being Vanek is much more likely to make it to UFA.....
Vanek does not have a NTC. If Regier does not think an extension will be in the works, he WILL move Vanek at the deadline and stock more picks/prospects for the rebuild. No NTC means Regier has 29 potential trade partners, he can just take the best offer--anything would be better than Vanek leaving for nothing. If (pick your favorite place nobody wants to play for) wants him, Vanek can't do anything about it until July.
