Thanks for that info, as I said I normally dislike beer. I am a big fan of rum and wine so that is my cup of tea, but I must admit that whenever I do drink beer I find myself drinking either Blue Moon or Honey Brown. And I almost never drink beer so I don't know any of the microbreweries worth tasting or supporting.

Gluten from the yeast beer your body cannot handle?

It doesn't have anything to do with gluten. There are like, millions of different strands of yeast and the kind they use to ferment beer I'm allergic to. I can have bread and pasta and stuff, just not anything that uses brewer's yeast!

If you like Blue Moon and flavored beers, most microbrews brew at least one wheat/fruity beer. If you're interested, I would just go to the liquor store and pick a wheat beer from a brewery you've never heard of and see what you think.

I also like supporting small breweries and not Coors so I avoid Blue Moon (although, it is a good beginner beer for those trying to improve their palate away from light lagers)

But, alas, I'm now allergic to beer. I've been sick every day for over a year and I couldn't figure out why (tried cutting out dairy and such and didn't help). Then I realized I drink beer almost every day and tried cutting that out and haven't been sick since. We did some research and found out it's most likely brewer's yeast. The symptoms of a brewer's yeast allergy match up perfectly. I can't have too much wine either since they use yeast to expedite the fermentation process.

It's a pretty big bummer. And came 2 months after spendin $800 on a kegerator I now have no use for.
I hate being that guy, but as a pro, I have to. Wine and beer fermentation is almost exactly alike.

That's why I said I can't have wine either?
I still get sick when I drink wine but I can at least have a glass. Any more and I get sick.
Beer takes less than half a glass to get me sick.

It was you comment about using yeast to expidite the fermentation process that had me confused.

I am having so much trouble deciding.

You can make wine without adding yeast.
Juice ferments on it's own because of the sugars

It just tastes like crap and takes way longer than using yeast.

Drink Soju. It's cheap, distilled, and bearable neat.

What's it like?
And is it available at an average liquor store?
I've been looking for a beer replacement. Cocktails are just too sweet (mostly) and I'm a wuss about non-mixed hard alcohol

It's sort of like Vodka, except that it's not as strong. The ABV is around 20-25 here in the states. It's built to be drinkable, but it is also legendary at ****ing you up really quickly.

It's got a slight flavor to it. Some people hate it, some people (myself included) don't mind it.

It is also legendarily cheap. It's more expensive in America, but I buy a fifth for like ten bucks. It's a bit hard to find, most of the time you have to go to a bigger shop (total beverage) or an asian market to find it.

If the taste puts you off a bit, mix it with lemonade.

I'll totally give it a shot, thanks! Total Beverage is usually where we shop so I'll take a look next time we're there

Breckenridge Brewery beers are worth giving a try. Speaking of liquor stores, do any of you frequent Tipsy's? I still can't believe someone actually conceived and built that place, it's like Bass Pro Shops meets a beer mart.

My latest vice is Crabbies alcohol Ginger Beer. Pretty mainstream market driven stuff - like a moscow mule in a bottle, but I love ginger beer so much.

Been on a big time dark n stormy kick lately as well.

Landeslog - How about Cider? Does that have the same effect on you? Colorado Apple Cider Company (I think thats their name - on 2nd and federal) is pretty awesome. The beermuda triangle!

As far as pumpkin beers go, I feel like it's a fad with all these people making it that's really not that good. Going to start buying some and taste testing them but I haven't found a great one yet outside of Wynkoop's seasonal Pumpkin.

I really like Shocktop's seasonal wheats this summer. Can't stand Shocktop most of the time, but their raspberry wheat was actually quite good - I drank some of my wife's and it was incredibly smooth.

Not much compares with fruity beer than Wailua Wheat from Kona Brewing Company for me though. Get that stuff on tap and it's phenomenal. I pretty much love ANYTHING that Kona brews to be honest.

If you haven't hit it up by now, I also believe Copper Kettle Brewing is the best beer in Denver. Hands down. Although I haven't been to Dry Dock yet. Had a couple of their beers and thought they were a bit too sweet for my tastes. Just speculating here but I think they get more fandom than others because they're so remote out there in Aurora (of all places) and have created a niche market with no competitors.
