Esche

Esche is Philly's starting goalie but is it safe to say he IS A No. 1 Goalie in the NHL for the years to come?

A No. 1 goalie, yeah. Years to come? No.

We'll need to see a little more consistency

Yes, he is a true number one goalie. I would rank him between 10th and 15th overall in the league. Behind guys like Nabakov and Turco, but ahead of guys like Aebeshir and Cloutier.

I personally would not rank Esche above David Aebisher.

Second, the Flyers starting job is not definite either. Although I do believe that it is Esche's job to lose, if he comes to camp out of shape and Niittymaki plays well, Nittymaki could very well be the opening day starter.

If Esche can play anywhere near the calibre he showed last year he's a #1. He outplayed Brodeur and Belfour in the POs,two pretty good ones in themselves. If he can bring it up a notch, and Nitty keeps progressing,Philly might be regarded as a team of goalies like the 70s-mid 80s,as oppossed to the revolving door fiasco that's plagued them since Hexies Conn Smythe year.

are you joking? the one thing Esche really has going for him is his consistency. he was the last goalie in the NHL to give up 4 goals in a game last season. he's not a lights-out shutout goalie, but he isn't going to get lit up either. he's very consistent, but rarely the goalie that is going to completely get in to a team's head.

Nitty has the potential to be the second i think...

I like Esche a lot but nothing is set in stone this coming season.
