Expectations for Dubinsky?

I'm not a Jackets fan but was surprised to see Dubinsky putting up the numbers he is in the preseason. I know it's preseason, but where is he slotted in the lineup? What are the expectations from him? 2nd line C, 50-60 points with healthy PIMs and a two way game fair?

Probably a lot higher than they were two games ago.

Has he really looked that good? Are we talking possible 1st liner here? Can't help but think of a more physical version of Bergeron.

He's played well with Gabby & Jenner. Its either him or Anisimov as #1

I've been saying since we acquired him he has the potential to be a 50+ pt player, same with Anisimov.
They just needed the opportunity to be put into a top 6 role on a consistent basis.

I said the same about Bob as well, he does much better as a starter than a backup/sub.

Now we will see how consistent they can be. If Dubinsky can remain in the lineup he will be a force in the league. Our system is perfect for the big guys in our lineup (Anisimov, Dubinsky, Jenner) as they attract defenseman down low opening up passing and shooting lanes for the smaller quicker forwards and our Dmen. Jenner and Dubinsky have shown (so far) they can thrive down low which will create a lot of chances in the offensive zone if they can remain consistent/healthy.

I'm thinking Johansen will center the second line with Anisimov on the first... but all of that is speculation for the time being.. With potential game injuries any of the three could play with Gabby (and Jenner )... I've not seen any preseason games but Dubinski knows he needs to pick it up this season..

I think he will....

Expectations for Dubinsky?

I don't care if he scores NO goals ... if we make the playoffs with him on the team, then I think it's mission accomplished for this year.

Ever since his days coming up through the Rangers system, he has shown some good skills but he infuriated every Rangers fan with his disappearing acts. He has the tools to be a 50 point player, he just has to show up every night.

Torts system and Richards system are way different. Also he will be one of the go to players on this roster where as in new York there were numerous stars who were looked up to carry the team.

How so? Both utilize dump&chase. Torts a bit more emphasis on shot blocking but I'm not sure "way different" applies. Please elaborate.

Tort's system involves browbeating and belittling everyone he sees: players, sports writers and fans. After that work is done, they block shots and play a lot of dump and chase with one man forechecking and two high.

Richards's system involves encouraging his players and fans. After that, he uses a two man forechecking setup with one man high.

Scott Arniel has been hired by the Rangers to carry out the first part of Tort's old system. Keep, piling on!

I should not love this post as much as I do.

Thanks for the clarification on the difference in the 2 dump & chases.

As to the Arniel part, meh.

Big expectations. Not just from Dubinsky either.

I think the veterans, as a group, did not show up last season like they should have.

Umberger
Johnson
Wiz
Dubinsky
Gaborik
Foligno

I expect better seasons from all of these guys....first and foremost from RJ.

Maybe even sextuples it. Will sextuple get by the censor?

Maybe....but right now Johansen reminds me of the attractive girl you fall smitten with until she speaks. Hopeful that I start hearing something that rekindles that feeling.

Posting in this thread because I love Dubi, but I just thought I'd introduce myself to the CBJ board. I'm a lifetime Rangers fan whose grown a bit disenchanted with our own section of the forums and at the same time has taken up a keen interest in the Jackets. I actually have paid attention to the Jackets for a while, having a couple of older cousins, whom I grew up playing hockey with, that moved to Ohio after going to OSU for college. I actually have a CBJ Vermette jersey that I'll probably have made into a Dubi jersey this year. Anyhow, with you guys acquiring a good crop of former Rangers (Dubi, Arty, Tyutin, Erixon, Gabby) and joining the conference, I've taken up an even greater interest (actually started with pulling for you guys to sneak in last season) and feel that you guys are my #2 team from here on. I went to the NYI game tonight, just to see you guys and I'm going to visit my cousins in Columbus next month and hope to catch two games while I'm there. Figured I'd introduce myself as it's very likely you'll start to see me in your GDTs as I'll be watching a lot of Jackets' games. Besides my former Rangers, I'm keen to see Jenner and Murray and really like Calvert, Johnson, Savard and Bob.

As for the OP, so as not to be completely off-topic, I will say this: Dubinsky still has untapped potential that I think he has a greater chance of reaching in Columus. He looks to be on pace to fulfill it since joining you. I believe he was on pace for about 55 points last year, he looked very strong in pre-season this year, and he has a point in each game so far. I think Dubi can be a 60 point player, if healthy, while providing an acknowledged but underrated degree of leadership, a really nice physical game and strong two-way dependability. I like that you guys have him back at C, as I think he's stronger as a puck carrier and distributor than he was on the wing where Torts wanted him. Honestly, the guy plays with so much passion and fire that even if he only puts up 45 points a year, he's still a guy who should always be a fan favorite. I'm excited to see what kind of year he has and what kind of year the Jackets have overall.
