Dalton Thrower expected to play for AHL Hamilton Bulldogs

"@SteveEwen: Thrower says 'proud to be a Giant,' but also says the #Habs have told him they plan on him making their AHL team next year"

- Take it for what it's worth. Just thought I'd share it. The guy is pretty reliable if you look at his history.

I read that as well. I am sure they told him to plan to play in the AHL, but just looking at the D-men in Hamilton, and with the recent addition of Nygren, I don't see much space (or ice time) left for Thrower.

No really news, because he's eligible now to play in the AHL (born in late 1993). Considering he's a 2nd round pick, it's a no brainer. He only needs to get a contract.

I was just about to say this. St. Denis is a UFA. I think he is signed an a 7th or 8th guy on the Habs or he isn't kept.

I edited the word 'expected' into your thread title because that's really all this post is saying...the Habs are setting a goal for him, not confirming his presence on the team.

Okay. That's fine. Thanks. How bad do I have to suck up to a mod to get my 5-point infraction revoked? Some mod told me I was trolling the Bruins boards, but I swear I was just stating the truth

I expect he won't get what he expects. But he better work hard to try to get there all the same.

He reminds me of Gorges. Hope he receive another offer from a NHL team.

I interpret this as more of the Habs telling him that if he makes the Dogs team, he'll stay with the AHL team. Otherwise, he goes back to the WHL.

Wherever he goes I just hope he beats some people up. With a name like that, how can you fail?

This says he'll be in the WHL next year.

That's because he hasn't been signed, so he has to play in the WHL, unless they sign him.

There is an interesting balance of right and left shooting defense if that happens. Pretty rare to have an excess of righties.

It will be interesting to see what the Habs think is the best course of action here. AHL/ECHL or WHL? He had very impressive stats in his draft year but that drop in production by about half, his off-ice problems, plus some poor play in the playoffs have to be of concern but he's already shown he can put up a lot of points so it may come down to what management thinks went wrong if it's something that they can work with him to fix or if there's a bigger problem here. (since I don't have all the details and can only go off the games I've seen him play)

My guess is that the next step would be for the Habs to get another look at him at the development camp and then sit down and decide the best course of action. Whatever the plan ends up being, hopefully it works as we sure could use his grit/toughness.

Does he play D bigger than his listed 5' 11"?

Don't the Habs need Dmen 6' 2" and up?

yes he does play bigger then someone 5'11 as he's more then willing to get his nose dirty. But this discussion doesn't have anything to do with the Habs since he's 19 and will be for some time still, if he were born just a few days later then he was he would be forced to go back to the WHL so it's still early in his development. By the time he's ready for the NHL the Habs could look very different.
