I know he is picky about the teams he plays for and wants a significant amount of money, but our goaltending is a issue and he is the best free agent available. I wonder if the Oilers ever made him a offer and what they may have offered?
Link for the Crawford offer? Because this would be an incredibly stupid thing to do considering how much Chicago seems to be committed to Crawford.

Secondly, the one year to Labarbera does not indicate anything of the sort i.e. that the Oilers are still in the hunt for another goalie.

The one year just shows that the Oilers are either
a) waiting for a goalie who might be available next season
b) seeing how Labarbera performs this season before offering him a longer term deal.

If the contract for Labarbera was a two way deal then yes, that would indicate that the Oilers would still be looking for another goaltender, but that's not the case.

What would the Oilers do with THREE goalies on one-way contracts? That's just silly, especially considering you can't hide cap hits in the minor leagues anymore.

Wow, Flyers just paid Matt Read $3.65M x 4 years.

That's a lot of money for a guy who currently is a 3rd liner on their depth chart.

To be fair he's a pretty good 2nd line player, even right now. There's just no room for him to play that role on a stacked Philly team (up front at least)

Giroux, Hartnell, Voracek, Schenn, Lecavalier, Simmonds....where does Read fit in?

The money's good for the player's value - if he was going to be slotted in on someone's 2nd line.

It's like if we re-signed Hemsky at that same cap hit for next season. It's pointless - there's simply no room for him to fulfill value on that deal playing on the 3rd line with Gordon-Joensuu/Jones.

The have like 57m committed to 16 guys now. Zero goalies signed. Brayden Schenn currently has a 3.1m cap hit and is an RFA next season. They will lose the cap hits of Timonen and Meszaros, but they are still guys that need to be replaced.

What? They have #24 ranked goalie Ray Emery and former Calder winner Steve Mason! All we have is Doobs.

If they win a cup what will you say? They have a lot of good players over there.. that often translates into victories.

Isn't Philly close to, if not over the cap?

Is their solution storing Pronger on the long term injured reserve?

Yeah, I don't think the cap even applies to them, Holmgren is a lunatic...must have some compromising pics of Bettman or something.

There's a good reason why they haven't won a Cup in almost 40 years. It's because they haven't had a decent goalie in a very long time.

You can't win without goaltending, and the Flyers were 22nd in GA last year.

The Flyers aren't winning a Cup anytime soon. I think most people outside of Philly will agree to that.

As much as neither Mason nor Emery are safe or stable candidates for the position, I do believe that either one of them has the capability to have a hot stretch. Obviously PHI is not a favourite for the cup, but if you get a hot goalie who knows what can happen? Its not like they have Conklin and Markkanen in net. These guys have played some good hockey and are gamers.

Couldn't the same be said about the Oilers...? Dubnyk is loads better than Mason.

Philly reminds me of the early 2000s Knicks who paid ridiculous amount of luxury tax they were so far over the cap

The Philly cap comments are kind of weird considering they have more cap space than the Oilers do.

Almost double it, actually.

With Pronger on LTIR and Bourdon and Gervais probably sent down, they have about $4M in space.

They also have many players on long term deals.

Wish Edmonton could dump Smyth and replace him with Prospal for the year.

If the Oilers weren't full of depth dmen, I'd glady take a chance on Bourdon.

Sell Voracek while his stock is high. Cap will be going up as well.
