From what I've read in the past Sather hasn't really wanted to part with Brian Boyle even though several teams have expressed interest. He even rides the pine as a healthy scratch sometimes but even so he's pretty much a perfect #13 forward to sub in for injuries... so I doubt the Rags will be parting with him.

Cap space for Stepan could be a factor. He's still unsigned.

I guess he would be okay for a stop gap , but would rather they grab a younger want to be in the NHL waiver pickup, Boyle is what this team really needs .

Connolly, Malhotra, Wellwood are pretty much all that's out there for marginal C depth at this point.

Malhotra would obviously be a great pickup if he was healthy... but he's not.

Connolly has his own extreme injury prone issues and is a borderline NHL talent at this point.

Wellwood is really the only other possible option.

Honestly, Eakins must have a pretty good idea on Connolly as he knows him from the Leafs system so he's probably out at this point.

I actually think the waiver wire might be a better place to watch for a borderline C at this point. Some team is likely going to have to move a body to make some room when someone like a rookie or PTO player surprises in camp and knocks a vet onto waivers.

I'd never employ MacIntyre to fight others that would willingly drop the gloves with him.

I'd employ him to be a short fused lunatic dressed in 5-10 games a year. He hasn't shown that he can do that and we haven't had a coach willing to direct him that way.

Yeah, it's not the solution I'd want either.

Screw it, bring Jeremy Yablonski over from Russia for one game when we play the Nucks next. Tell him to pull what he did over there that one game with the Sedins.

He also isn't what we need for the top two lines. Preferably Gordon doesn't move up to the 2nd line, and Malhotra when he's healthy is kind of like what Gordon brings.

We'd just need him for 10 games, maybe 15. If he can be healthy for that long and come at a cheap pricetag so he doesn't handcuff the team after the big guys come back, then I think he'd be okay.

Agreed. Arcobello might be comparable, and has some experience from the AHL playing with the top guys, but Wellwood is a decent player that could become a fair 13th forward afterwards, with the idea that he'd fill in at wing or centre for future top-6 injuries. He can be very invisible but he's fairly responsible.

Yes, I think they should watch that, as it seems Wellwood is going nowhere fast. If he does get picked up by someone, Arcobello probably will turn in a better performance.

Good catch...maybe nothing to it but that's basically how the Grebeshkov signing was discovered early

Yeah your right.

http://mapleleafs.nhl.com/club/roster.htm

Is he maybe injured? Its kinda odd that Cody Franson is on their roster and he doesn't have a contract.

The guy who couldn't pass a physical last year, and hasn't played hockey since before the lockout?

They need a center that can actually help the team. The Oilers would be lucky if they could get a performance on par with what they got out of Oates in his final season if they signed Arnott.

I just went there to see how many heavy's they got and could not find Orr of all people. maybe a mistake but i would be happy to have him on the oil to cave in Kassians face.

I honestly have mixed feelings about it. I can see why some see it as a "waste of a roster spot"... then again I see the defacto #1 C on the team with busted teeth and a broken jaw... and I can easily envision the rest of the smurf-ish top 6 (or even the top 9) being targeted and being recklessly abused by divisional rivals.

The Oilers are going to develop a rep as a fast, skilled team... what better way for a less speedy, less talented team to stop that type of team than smashing and injuring some of them for weeks/months at a time?

Will Smac be a deterrent? Maybe... maybe not.. but doing nothing and watching our players pick up their teeth several times this season (and losing key top 6 players for long stretches) doesn't seem a prudent move either.

I wouldn't be against them claiming Smac... I'd understand the move and even though it once again might (very probable actually) end up with Smac hitting waivers himself several months from now, in the meantime he just might be make the team feel a little more protected on the bench.

Who'd we rather have on the 4th line, Smyth or Smac?
