It's definitely tough to think of a job where getting punched in the face pays more.

MacT talked about not just claiming a center that is slightly better than what we have, why would they claim yet another winger that is at best slightly better than what we have? Sure if he was 23 and had some potential, but he's 28 or 29.
I don't get it either, makes zero sense.

Let me know when a top six C goes on waivers. Then I'll start calling MacT a failure.

Why is everyone so keen on getting Stepan? He is a RFA. We trade for him with prospects and then we gotta sign him. Looking at his totals, I wouldn't be surprised if he got 5M for 5 years. Where can we fit him in? we have only 2M in cap space, if that.

Stepan is apparently asking for around 3.5M per .. and Rookie bonuses dont really count against the cap so we actually have over 6M in cap space for this year.

I havent seen him play much but he was gold for me on my fantasy team.. hits, scores, win faceoffs, kills penalties, had 6 GWG in the shortened last season and was going close to PPG.

I'd do it, but I doubt the Rangers are as keen

Trading Klefbon would be utterly stupid. Stepan is a nice player but this would be an over reaction.

Not for a player like Stepen.

The Oilers could really use him. Slide Gags to the wing, having 3 (maybe 4 if Hall pans out at center) possible centermen in your top 6 is a very good thing, considering injuries can happen.

I'd do this deal in a heartbeat and I'd even add to it if the Rangers weren't happy.

I would be very happy if the Oilers traded Klefbom to the Rangers for Stepen.

I'm pretty sure Rangers fans would be very unhappy if that trade happened. Stepen is a stud. Straight up.

We don't have the cap space to sign Stepan even if we trade N Schultz For nothing

Not good for Blum, waived. Wonder if any team can make something out of him.

See post#809

I haven't looked into it at all but apparently we have around 6 mill in cap space when you take away bonus cushions.

Signing him would put up right up against the cap but I'd take that risk.

I've had enough of this team being patient and going the low risk route everytime.

We have many young top 6 forwards right now. Stepan would be a luxury and imo moving Gagner to wing is a downgrade for him. We have drafted a lot of D prospects for a reason.

Move Gagner down to 3rd line with plugs like Yakupov and Joensuu
Also, the reason to draft D prospect was to fill up the D with quality Dmen.. We were lucky enough to get a couple via free agency. (Justin and Ference) and Belov might just work out as well.

Losing Klefbom would suck but its a price we can afford to pay with all the depth we have.

No timeline, but Eakins says Grebeshkov has a groin injury.

There goes Grebeshkov.

I remember that, just goes to show that no matter what people say about prospects they have a better chance to bust than make it.

That is the funny part about listening to all fans about their prospects in how this fwd is going to be a 50, 60 or 70 point player in the NHL or this dman is a top 4. It is a lot harder than what we fans think.

We have no real good depth at d. A bunch of question marks.

Ference is older, schultz is going to be really good. Petry and smid are overated by us fans imo. We talk about depth with our forwards, we also need depth and youth on the back end.

Hey Stepan is a really nice player any team would like to have him but in my mind we already addressed skilled forward depth with the Perron trade. If we make that deal I see us dealing a top 6 forward a year or two down the road for dman.
