That being said, he plays well for two years, applies for arbitration, handcuffs the team in the short term and eventually leaves - the Rangers team is not getting any younger; it's not great business to anger your customers.

Wouldn't hurt to pick him up though if he is on waivers there may be details or issues that took place during his camp.

I'll see what the Ott boards are saying bout him

I don't know much about this guy. Have you seen him play/heard good things? What do we know about his toughness? I see few penalty minutes, so unless he's good at finishing checks but not taking penalties, I wouldn't draw that conclusion (based on my purely stats-based knowledge of him).

Speaking of draws, he was 45.7% last year. That's not great (not terrible), just average. Certainly not a specialist there. It does look like he played a lot of penalty kill, but without seeing him, it's hard for me to say if he's that good at it.

Not challenging that we should claim him, I'd just like to know more as to why!

He's the center version of Petrell. Petrell might actually be a better faceoff guy, never checked.

He had 30 hits in 29 games. Not that physical or tough.

Where do these myths of players come from?

our best players at forward are all in their 20s. other than nash and callahan all of them are in their mid 20s or younger. our defenseman are all in their 20s as well. we arent an old team.

hits are an overrated stat because many times its subjective based on who is the stat keeper. im pretty sure the NYR stat keeper will count any sort of "bump" as a hit.

Yeah, just happened today out of the blue. Thanks

I agree it it's best to not anger you players, but if there is a team that can get away with it, it would be the Rangers.

So if you go to this thread in the OTT page, the sens fans think this guy is a good 4th line center who should get picked up...

But maybe they just don't act like HF Oil posters and run down all of theirs players from the second line down....

O'Brien isn't a tough guy by any means, but I hear from Sens fans he's actually pretty good defensively and is proven to work on the PK. That alone makes him more useful than Will Acton. He's also produced offensively in the AHL at least, so there's a much higher chance for him to translate that to the NHL than daddy's boy. Picking up Jim O'Brien and sending Acton down is a no brainer to me.

According to people here, every player who hits the waiver wire should be picked up. They seem to ignore the fact that the player couldn't make their own NHL team.
