You can't go wrong either way. Fernandez is 4 years younger than Stausburg, but Harper is 3 years younger than Stanton.

Both franchises are very fortunate.

he qualified it with business factors.

essentially, you have stanton/fernandez at a combined ~million this year. stanton enters his first arb year next year but fernandez isn't arb eligible until 2016. that's the kicker for me. by the time stanton is out of arb, he'll be gone.

the nationals had to commit to harper and strasburg out of the draft. strasburg enters arb this year, they bought out a year of harper's arb so he's at ~2 million until 2016.

i think you'd have to take fernandez/stanton. whatever flaws they might have, they're cheaper right now. granted, stanton might get some cash in arb or before arb, the nationals are starting at 2 million with harper and adding whatever strasburg gets. the marlins don't have to pay fernandez until 2016.

yea, he was safe but still Shane Robinson should have slid. Hell of a night defensively for Alvarez tonight though.

Verlander mediocre yet again.

Looks like the Cards will be back in 1st. Those 3 NL Central teams are basically holding serve in their home parks in those head-to-head series.

There is absolutely no excuse for the Cards to not win the division. The schedule opens up so much the rest of the season. Only team above .500 they play the rest of the season is Washington.

The schedule is far kinder to the Cards than the other two and the Pirates and Reds will finish the season knocking each other out, so I fully expect the Cards to end up winning the division.

Still stinks to see two listless performances in St. Louis by the Pirates. Seems we can't buy a call or a break on the road right now, and it's a road-heavy schedule down the stretch.

Tampa already down 3-0.

Texas having all kinds of problems with the Angels, 5-2 Angels.

And we have a Papelbown in Philly. Simmons is up to 15 homers, not bad at all.

Against Freddy freaking Garcia, who I didn't even know was back in the bigs, let alone trusted enough to pitch the 9th of a 5-5 game...not sure why ATL is acting like these games mean nothing. They should be putting a priority on getting homefield advantage.

And indeed Everlong, KC will only be 3 and 1/2 back if Seattle holds onto this lead to win.

Power is a nice surprise and all but his OBP is still below .300. Miggy's SLG% is only 8 points lower than Simmons' OPS.

Strasburg/Harper.

What Fernandez is doing is impressive but Strasburg is only 25. When he starts going deeper in the games he'll be up there with Kershaw as the best pitcher in the game. I'd take Harper over Stanton any day.

If he can be a .340 wOBA hitter, he'd be a 7 WAR player.

Fernandez is doing that at 20 though.

Royals still in the hunt for that wild card, remember when KC won the AL West back in the day!?

The 2nd AL Wildcard spot is still wide open. I thought TB would have locked it up by now, but you can't sleep on the Yankees or the O's, or the Indians or KC for that matter. Lots of games still to be played.

I doubt KC can hold on. You can't count Cleveland out, but losing Masterson is a substantial blow. Now would be a good time for Swisher to get hot.

3-0 now. Charlie Morton stinking it up for the first time in weeks.

White Sox up 2-0 on the Orioles.

Yanks tied at 1.

Cards make it 5-0. Yikes.

Matsuzaka shutting out the Indians.
