Blues interested in Brenden Morrow

http://www.stltoday.com/sports/hocke...92b5a9660.html

I don't understand it. I'd take Morrow for the right price, but I wouldn't if we would have to give up some young talent. It seems we already have a log jam of 3rd/4th liners..

This.

I'd rather put a youngin' in there who can get some experience to get better for the years to come rather than put some aging, slow veteran in there.

Best way to fix our too many forwards problem.

If Morrow comes in, I doubt we'll see Jaskin which is kind of a shame.

Boy, I hope we don't sign Morrow. Unless everyone else here wants us to. In which case it would probably be for the best.

I don't mind Morrow as a player actually, but what I have a problem with is this takes time away from Porter and Reaves. Yeah yeah I know they are grinders but they both do their job very well and work extremely hard on every shift. They play physical, and both came to camp in excellent shape (finishing top 5 in fitness). I just don't understand why we are looking for ways to push them out of the lineup, it doesn't make sense. Morrow isn't useless, but he's just unneeded.

I don't buy the fact that this is based on us not retaliating for Sobotka, as some posters were saying. Let me ask you one freaking question:

If one of our guys gets absolutely destroyed with a head shot, who would you rather have in the lineup to answer it: Brenden Morrow or Ryan Reaves?

Talk all you want about veteran leadership but to me the answer is simple and I rest my case, thank you.

The reason for interest in Morrow is adding a veteran and adding a top 9 fill-in. If there is an injury in the top 9 down the stretch, it is better to have Sobotka and Morrow as the fill-ins, instead of having to use Jaskin or Rattie who would inevitably have growing pains, especially if they aren't receiving consistent NHL playing time.

I'd bet good money that Jaskin would contribute more offense on the 3rd line than Morrow.

I think Veteran leadership is overrated. It's time for our players to step up and be our veteran leaders. At this point if they need veteran leaders we need to rethink our whole team.

Look at the production from Schwartz and Tarasenko down the stretch. If Jaskin isn't getting consistent NHL playing time, then he is going to rookie mistakes and we can't afford those in important games down the stretch.

I'm a big fan of Jaskin, but IMO he either needs to be up all season, so he can get the growing pains out of the way early or he should only be used in unimportant situations.

People love to say how Morrow's lack of speed will keep him from making an impact, but don't forget that Jaskin lack of speed will hold him back as well. He has improved it, but it is not at a level for him to make an impact yet IMO.

I disagree that they are overrated.
But IMO this team needs a vet leader on the ice, we have got enough good, vocal guys in the dressing room but these guys (beside of Steen and maybe Jax) didn't got the job done on the ice so far.

so I think this team needs a vet but more of a Penner and less of a Langenbrunner...Morrow would definitely fall into the latter category.

This.

I have no idea why Armstrong is interested in Morrow, plus being up against the cap ceiling for this year then having to make a trade? Pass.

We won't have to. If we sign morrow for the rumored 1 mil, then we send Cracknell down. That means we only use 400K extra in space on Morrow.

JR confirming that the cap hit is $1.5m for the year. Assuming that it is Cracknell that is making way then we have $850k in cap space with our 23 man roster.

Bring back Redden, Arnott and Langenbrunner too, imo.

Remember how important Penner was for the Kings in the playoffs.

Morrow - Lapierre - Sobotka
Morrow - Sobotka - Reaves/Porter
Sobotka - Lapierre - Reaves/Porter

We'll have some really interesting 4th line options if that is how he is going to be utilised. If it is, and he plays 50-ish games this season then he could be a great signing.

If he is playing 13-15 minutes every single game and popping up on the Berglund-Tarasenko line on a very regular basis then it could be a terrible signing.

I don't get this. At 1.5 and in a depth role, this is a good risk to take. He still potted 12 goals last season.

Yes he potted 12 goals, but 6 of those came in the last 15 games playing significant minutes on an offensively stacked Penguins team. I just don't get paying a guy 1.5 million to grind away on the forth line when Chris Porter can do just as good of a job on the fourth line for almost a million dollars less.

Hitch mentioned how competition for 4th line spots was disappointing and the Sobotka situation probably pissed him and Army off. This way we have Morrow and Lapierre who know when they need to step up and make a statement as we can't afford having Backes and Jackman doing it in important games.

When did Porter learn how to score goals or play defense?

I like Porter's speed and willingness to bang bodies; but let's stop over-rating the guy. He has no offensive skills what-so-ever and is below average in the defensive zone.

With Morrow; you're getting a guy who is just as physical, has some goal scoring ability and is a capable defensive who has a reputation for throwing his body in front of pucks.

Stop over-rating Chris Porter.
