I'd laugh but it reminds me of my kids always asking what the Cialis et al commercials mean.

On my last placement my colleague said he took his kids to the farm and were looking at the tortoises, when one proceeded to mount the other and go to town.

"Daddy, what are they doing?" Kid is 3 I believe.

"They're dancing son."

The one starts to moan quite heavily, and of course the kid asks "Daddy, what is he doing now?"

"They're singing son."

Just two tortoises singing and dancing.

We get it. He can't stay on his feet, BIG DEAL! As long as we can get an effective 3rd liner for cheap, I could care less if he falls on his ass every 5 seconds.

I realize the point of that website, but it has made me wonder another question:

Is Raymond bad for diving? I don't recall it from the 2010-11 playoffs but I'm not sure how far that disease permeated into the Canucks dressing room.

Kesler, Lapierre and Burrows are the shameless divers on the Canucks. Raymond was pretty clean when it came to that stuff.

Don't forget Henrik Sedin. He's probably the worst.

Did a little research, this is pretty blatant:

Actually, the Sedins don't dive much at all. They're horrible at it - as almost every highlight (lowlight) of it shows. Plus, they're pretty classy guys... not really their "thing".

Scrum is right... Kesler, and Burrows were the main culprits (Lapierre not quite as much), and you can throw Luongo right up there in the mix as well.

Frankly, as a Canucks fan, it is embarassing. Luckily, they all did so far less last year. Hopefully this year it's all but gone.

As for Raymond - no, he isn't a diver. He is on the ice much of the time as stated, but 70% of the time it is because he can't stay on his feet when hit, 15% of the time it is because his footwork didn't match his speed, and the remaining 15% is because other teams need to hook/slash him because they can't catch him. (In other words, he's drawing penalties)

Did we watch the same Raymond? Raymond is almost exclusively a perimeter player. He almost never drives for the net. He isn't particularily good in the corners, even if he isn't all that afraid to go into them. He has more than "some" speed... he's bloody fast. He does try hard, but isn't at all a balanced player in terms of skill and ability.

Still, if TML can snag him for say, 1.5m, I'd consider that a steal. While he has his faults, he's a fun player to watch and will serve his purpose given sheltered minutes.

I also live in Vancouver. I like giving Raymond a tryout but I do not think he is an upgrade on Macarthur. They are similar players and each had one very good season. Raymond may be a bit faster but Macarthur is the more physical IMO. I think it is about a wash between them as players though Macarthur did get signed as a UFA and, so far, Raymond hasn't been. That may say something about their relative worth in the eyes of the hockey world. The real difference, however, is that Raymond, if he is signed, will be much cheaper. I would have been glad to keep Macarthur if had cost what I think Raymond will, not too far north of $1,000,000.

Raymond and Komarov are such different players that it's hard to compare them.

Hard to complain...

Komorov,Macarthur took their own leave. Frattin was traded. At $1M he is a a steal for a 3rd liner, people forget Komorov had zero offense. But yeah @$2M I'm not that sold on him.

While there is no harm in a camp invite PTO contract, I would have thought another soft, small perimeter player would be going against the grain of Carlyle's in your face physical system.

If the Leafs were going to bring in a veteran, I personally would have offered Brenden Morrow a PTO instead.. His grit, leadership, and experience would have added additional components to a young team.

Kulemin -- Bolland --Morrow would make a great 3rd line.

I cant even imagine how big the same websites are for the Sedins/Burrows/Kessler just to name a few. The Nucks could easily put together an Olympic Diving Team.

To bad. Wanted them to give a few of the kids a shot, Ashton in particular. Hopefully Ashton beats him out. Enough of the retreads.

im not sold on ashton's offence. His physical game is NHL ready but his offence isn't there

Raymond probably puts up 40-50 points this year while ashton is capable of maybe 20-30

The guy's probably going to be dirt cheap given that he's here on a PTO. His PPG average was .47 to MacArthur's .50, so I think he's a pretty good value player to add at this point. If Ashton can beat him for a job all the better...

Raymond would be a welcome addition. You can clearly see Nonis' plan. He is going after guys with playoffs (specifically, cup finals) experience.

Bolland, Bernier (backup), Clarkson and now Raymond (injured in Game 6,7) all have participated in cup finals in last 3 years. I believe Nonis realised that inexperience cost Leafs the 2nd round berth in spring this year.

I wonder what the most a guy has signed for in this situation?

I'm afraid the roster is already made. I just hope they give Ashton, d'amigo or any other kid a fair shake. We've seen it before where a young guy shines but they go with the retread. Hopefully I'm wrong and the best guy wins the spot.

Have you seen Morrow play lately? He's slow and way past his prime. I'd be very surprised if he is healthy the majority of the season. Raymond would bring more offense and speed to the line up, two elements lost with Mac and Grabo. I think the whole Carlyle blueprint is blown out of proportion. A team needs all kind of players to win in today's NHL, especially speedy players. It's not like the Leafs are full of small perimeter players, I would argue Kessel is the only other winger who fits that description.
