Wow, talk about a trade. Something had to happen with the Verrier trade but this is big.

More than likely futures to Moncton. Leroux seems to think the same thing. Tkachev is worth way more than late picks and a 20 year old that was on the outside looking in and had to be traded

There's a rumour Sweeney is heading to Quebec. Qc might pay extra in this deal...

Beausoleil was asked directly about Sweeney and he said he was told by Moncton's GM that the only guy not moving on their D is Sweeney as they want him back next year.

I would assume Sweeney would cost 2 higher picks or prospects, does Quebec even have enough to give a return similar that Drum got for Beaudoin? He's coming back as a 20 too so likely cost a bit more too.

Hodge has also just said that 3 players will be coming to Moncton from these 2 trades, 1 F, 1 D and 1 G. They are to help strengthen the future of the team. Not sure who they are but likely two from Shaw and one from Quebec.

I doubt Booth is coming from Quebec so maybe Sutton from them at Christmas

I think it all depends who they are getting back I think. They are losing so much after this year: Dubeau, Barbashev, Talbot-Tassi and only really Garland and Sweeney (assuming he is not traded, rumours say he might be but others say the Wildcats will not move him) returning who have shown they are big contributors.

I figure Sweeney, Johnson and Johnston will be 20s but I thought this year would have been the year for them to go for it if they were. Although I thought they would have come up short. Really interested to see what they get back.

If they get someone like Labbe, Booth and Timashov (No chance the return is this, it would happen at the draft) then i think they go for it. I'm hoping they are able to get some younger guys that still have a few more years left like Phelan but I doubt it. Weird trade for Shaw though.

Details about the end of the deal: http://www.journaldequebec.com/2014/...t-les-wildcats

To Quebec: Tkachev, 1 veteran defenseman (Sweeney), 2nd pick 2016 (SHA)

To Moncton: Burke, 1 reg defenseman, 1 reg forward, 1 goalie at the draft (not Callum Booth)

I'm thinking it must be Johnston going there and Donaghey heading back for Moncton to have to add a 2nd 2016. The forward has be intrigued. I'm thinking it's a guy like Donovan Rehill but it doesn't seem near enough return...

i get a kick out of reading the times transcript. Lalonde has been god the past 2-3 years to the wildcats and Neil hodge. This morning in the paper - Burke has stronger and much more leadership and character! What does that say about Lalonde!!! He was your captain!!!!

I just get a kick out of it....same thing as Tkachev. Was an unbelievable player if you ever read anything from Hodge. Now he is completely expandable, because he just not living up to anything.

Nothing like kicking them in the rear on their way out!

Tkachev has been a big disappointment this season and Lalonde ,although captain, has been out for the past 6 weeks. I have no doubt whatsoever that Burke is a better leader. His two-way play was very questionable , his on ice antics were embarrassing to watch at times , certainly not a true leader by example.

I don't know why someone who works in the league professionally gets their panties in bunch soo much over a sports writer...

There were questions about Burke's leadership in Gatineau...

It's not like he showed much leadership qualities either wanting out of Quebec because he was on the 3rd line.

Well they must have saw some qualities when naming him their captain.

All I'm saying is that , imo , Lalonde had questionable character as well and that's coming from different players. He doesn't play defensively , that comes from me. Now when I hear about Burke , I keep hearing two-way play as a forte.

This all comes from someone (myself) who is around the team. Not someone who reads articles and makes assumptions when having little to no insight.

He didn't like his role with Quebec. He wants to sign an AHL contract so 9 points in 21 games doesn't look good. He wants an offensive role as well. Quebec played him with Timashov and Erne several games and it didn't work out.

I can't post the link but it's on François Parenteau's blog in La Presse.

The leadership thing comes from Gatineau fans who said he didn't like being captain. Groulx traded his captain and he'd not even in a rebuild... There must have been something he didn't like.

The constant whining about Neil Hodge gets old and doesn't bring anything of value to these boards. He is what he is and everyone knows that.

We are. Shannon signed off on it.

Tkachev + Sweeney

for

Burke + Donaghey + Moody and Brassard at the draft.

I think that's pretty good return. Looks like a good year for the wildcats next season. what are your thoughts?
