Colton Gillies

What do you think the future holds for this unrestricted free agent? He's not the most skilled player, but he has a rare combination of size, grit and speed. Still young too. He would slot in nicely as a 13th/14th forward on the Ducks who lack some size up front, but with our current forward situation it won't happen. Any other takers?

Same guy who picked Tyler Cuma, James Sheppard, and AJ Thelen

He will get a 2-way contract from someone.

Wouldn't mind him on the Canucks as a fourthliner! He's gotta be better than Sestito right?

I've watched a lot of Colton Gillies and I never felt he added enough value.

Unfortunately, Gillies is probably done in the NHL; couldn't find a niche for himself.

Brings nothing to the table aside from being a warm body.

Doug "who needs 1st rounds success" Risebrough. Good lord. The guy has a simply dismal draft record.

Colton Gillies may never play a full nhl season. He kind of sucks.

I still see him getting an NHL deal. He says he's in the best shape of his life, big and can skate. I can see someone giving him a PTO and trying him on the 4th line.

Agreed. Big, young & cheap is a combination that someone will take a chance on.

He can hit and defend his teammates when needed. He should get a two way deal from someone.

A warm body isn't nearly as fast or nearly as ready to defend fellow players. He doesn't contribute much above and beyond "warm body" status, but he does have a few useful minor attributes.

Dunno if that's enough to get him another NHL job, but let's at least try to be fair.

He was an adequate fourth-liner for the CBJ, last year, and he's a really good guy. I think he'll get another chance with someone.

I think he's done. Possibly a two way, but won't see much time in the NHL. So glad DR isn't in Minnesota anymore to draft any more of these kind of guys.

I would give him a 2-way deal in Montreal.

I do not know much about him , but reading what fans who know him are saying he would fit in well with the Oilers on the 4th line

Loved watching him play on the aeros and was very happy for him when he was in Columbus. I hope he gets atleast a 2 way deal. He throws his body around and is a decent scrapper who will defend teammates.

He's maybe a 13-14th NHL forward at best. I'm guessing either a PTO or playing overseas. Another 2007 1st round bust.

The best pro hockey he ever played was in Houston's run to the AHL finals: 24 games, 7 goals, 12 points. Looked like he had turned a corner there, but no.

If there wasn't a limit on contracts, I wouldn't mind him in Iowa on a 2 way deal.

Maybe someone could pull a Burns with him and make him a defenseman.

great kid. sucks that things never worked out for him, but he doesn't think fast enough to make his size and speed work. That's his problem. Rushing him probably didn't help but I'm not sure it hurt as much as most people think, either. There's no problem with effort or attitude so hopefully someone takes a chance and he settles into a banger role.
