I was actually surprised that Terry Jones went to Terrwilliger when some of the players were skating there. Usually he just goes to the game itself and rarely does the morning skate interviews.

Meh, what does he expect. It's training camp, not lets play shinny.

Got the impression he wanted to see the torture test.

Smith-Hall-Hemsky a line. So Yakupov-Gagner-Eberle?

RT @Bob_Stauffer: A couple lines... Hall between Smyth and Hemsky and Acton between Joensuu and Brown from Sherwood Park.

Judging by some of these first few tweets, I can see a fire Eakins thread being started at some point today

Hall could get Hemsky going again. They have had some previous success together. Smyth can show a little defensive awareness out there. Could be a decent line imo.

Eakins likes pairs on lines.

Hall/Hemsky
Perron/Yakupov
Eberle/Nuge

I just don't think Smyth can keep up. I rather have Jones, who has speed and willingness to dig in the corners. But I do realize it's hour 1 or 2 of training camp so I'm not exactly opposed to trying things out.

Just had to replace Horcoff with Hall.

Ugh, I can't believe Smyth is even being considered for a top 6 position.

I was just coming to terms that he will be back as a bottom 6 player and I wasn't even happy about that...

Eakins said he has watched video from last season. Would he not of seen how bad he was? I just don't get it, what is all of HFOil missing that the every coaching staff always sees in him?

I think it's just a trial at this point. One can hope that Eakins is just seeing if Smyth actually worked out this summer or not. I've heard Smyth doesn't exactly put the effort in that most pros do in the summer, but who knows if he worked hard this summer maybe there is 20 games of top 6 time out of him. I highly doubt it though.

Yeah I can see that, but just hand feeding him top 6 time from the start IMO, isn't the way to go about it.

I would put him with bottom 6 players, let him earn a spot back in the top 6. If Smyth can be as good as he thinks he is, he will play his way up there. He sure as hell didn't do anything last season to deserve it.

Also, if Hall's as good as we say he is (he is), he should make his linesmates better. (He will).

That said, I don't like Hall with Hemsky. For both to be effective they need the puck in the neutral zone.

Eakins was saying that guys have to fight for time regardless of age. If he thinks Smyth has the skill set to play in the top 6 or an offensive role I really have no issue with him trying Smyth or whoever there. The problem I'll have is when Smyth is in the top 6 taking lame hooking calls, while a Joessnuu is out there generating scoring chances and playing well, but doesn't get the shot.

Right now everyone is on a pretty even playing field, or at least that is what I took from Eakins.

Smyth was so bad in the bottom 6 last year, he should have been amnestied, and the Oilers should be going hard after somebody like Kulemin to replace him.

But, MacT didn't do this.

Smyth has no game other than to be a complementary player on a scoring line. He was a fail last year as a bottom 6 player - replaced by Chris VandeVelde at one point. He has scored 5 goals in his last 82 games while leading the bottom 6 in giveaways.

I feel a bit sorry for Hall having to drag this boat anchor around, but, knowing Hall, if Smyth can't keep up he'll have no problem expressing it on the ice. Hall is emotional, and hates to lose. He hates to be scored against. People may recall he ripped Tom Renney a couple of years ago for pulling the goaltender and allowing an empty net goal.

If nothing else, this drama could be entertaining.

Over/under on when some tool of a poster pulls out the term "Eakinsblender" and thinks he's the smartest little thing ever?

I loved seeing Quennville use the blender all year and in the playoffs.

In the recent Vine video posted on the Oilers twitter, Davidson looks like Big E skating away. Might just be the big 88 on his back. Since Davy is only 6'1" and 202 haha

Don't forget about the split squad games on the weekend as well. We are probably going to see unusual combos until camp gets trimmed down a bit and more guys get sent to the Farm or Juniors imo.
